Bug spray/lotion for sensitive skin!!

Our DD (10) is healing from Cellulitis as a result of bug bites that got infected. Once she is all healed, we have to put bug spray or lotion on her every day so she doesn't get eaten up alive!

She is a red-head with a history of eczema and has sensitive skin. Any recommendations on what brand to use?

i'm strawberry blond with fair skin-so similar issues.

you might have her try taking vitamin b complex oraly. it takes a week or so to take effect, but it causes your body to give off some kind of odor (only detectable to insects) that repels bugs. sounds crazy but it works. i first tried it years ago and it was the first time in my life i did'nt end up eaten alive and stuck with welts.

another option is one of those "off" battery operated things that attach to your belt loop. these are supposed to work well, and it would'nt be subjecting her skin to the actual repellant.

I have had good luck with the Skintastic stuff and the Off in the blue bottle with the orange cap (I can't remember what it is called). It doesn't have DEET in it so you do need to apply it more frequently but there is no scent and having kids with eczema, they haven't had problems with it either. Living in MN bugs are a BIG issue here so we are pretty "up" on bug spray .

I just discovered a few days ago the Burt's Bees makes a natural bug repellent. It contains natural oils as the active ingredients and seems to be highly recommended. I plan on trying it out soon.

I have very fair skin and it's sensitive to everything. I just had to pay $27 for a rather small tube of suncreen because everything else breaks me out in itchy rashes.


I looked into those OFF battery operated things and it still says that it could end up on the skin and it's not for those with sensitive skin. I can't remember exactly what it said, but I know it was enough for me to be disappointed and not buying it.
It doesn't matter if something says for sensitive skin, most of the time, I'm still allergic to it.

We use the Burt's Bees repellent on dd. It works very well and doesn't irritate her sensitive toddler skin.
