I am worried now because we will be at WDW as soon as school gets out and I keep reading about all the bugs, and the terrible bites all over everybody's body.

Beleive it or not, I have never used bug spray. Do I buy a spray or lotion? How often to apply? Before or after sunblock? I would feel more comfortable with the Avon stuff, but think it is too late to order, and I don't have an Avon lady.

Do the bugs hang out by the pools more? I think I want to buy one of those mosquito nets, like the one I saw in another thread!! Yuck! How many different kinds of bugs are flying around right now? EEKKKKK!!!!

Look on www.avon.com. I'm sure your order would be there in about a week and they offer skin-so-soft lotion with SPF 30. Also, there are other sun and bug lotions on the market, though I've never used them. Good luck and have a great trip!

Skin so soft is excellent but make sure you get some with SPF. Using the bathoil type will help with bugs and also cause a nice burn from the sun.

Might I suggest Natrapel. It is a DEET-free insect repellant. You can find it in most sporting good stores. I work in rivers all summer so bugs are a big problem and we only use this. I am not a big fan of DEET, so this is a good alternative. I would also recommend bring along a few different repellants as some will work on some people and some will not. Good luck. I will be going to DIS in Sept. and I will have my Natrapel.

My ped recommended the Avon SSS that is a bug repellent and sunscreen in one. I ordered some from Avon and it only took a week, arrived just the other day. My MIL is an "Avon lady"--(she hates that term, so we use it alot),and she orders on Saturday morning and the order usually arrives the following Friday or Saturday.

I am pretty sure you can order from avon.com directly now. I'm not sure if or how an avon rep gets a commission, but oh well, if you need the product in a hurry you may be able to get it.

Good luck!

Steph

Sun lotion with bug repellants work well.

IF you decide to purchase it with DEET, please look for one marked for kids or at least with less than 5%.

ALSO, don't in your fear of the bugs keep applying over and over. A friend of sister DIED of DEET poisoning. She was in the Caribbean and so afraid of being bit she kept spraying herself. It is dangerous stuff if you use it alot.

Also lighter color clothes are less attractive to bugs.

SSS Bug guard from Avon is the only thing that works for us!

::yes::

I'm another one who uses the SSS bug guard with 30SPF. No deet, and yes it keeps mosquitos from biting me! I buy mine from Ebay. Last week I bought "buy it now" for 2.50, for my June trip. Shipping was 2.00, and it arrived within 3 days. So, if you have time, this may be a good option for you!

Here's the the one I use. If you hurry, you can purchase this one!

Thank you everyone for all your advise. I think I will try the Avon for sure. I will also buy a back up.

Thanks everyone for the Avon advice!!! I went to the Avon website and ordered some. They have two bottles for the price of one right now!!!

Thanks again!
Carla

I'm too late to respond to you, but for everyone else out there, buy Burt's Bees Insect Repellant. It is all natural and really, truly works. Lemon scent is not very strong, but nice.

We always use Burt's Bees products. Everything is all natural. Fantastic Products!!!

This is going to sound crazy but try Bounce Dryer sheets. Tie one in your belt loop or around a stroller bar and it works! Friends pediatrician even said rub it over your arms and legs etc... Dont ask me how but It really does work. I live in So Fla and mosquitos are terrible here.

We also use Downy dryer sheets as a great alternative for babies and little ones - you can rub it on their clothes and tuck or hang a sheet or two around the stroller. We also like to use the bug repellent towelettes when travelling - they come individually packaged and are easy to carry and use - having lost a family member to west Nile virus this past year, I am using the DEET formulas as they work best for me - love the avon SSS for gnats (lovebugs, noseeums) - but it doesn't keep mosquitoes off of me and that is my greatest concern.

Vitamin B1 taken for a month prior is what camp america tells its new consellors to do as sprays etc are not allowed from a safety angle. ;) :D
