Should I bring bug repellant to the parks with me? I dont recall if the moskitoes(sp) were bad last time we went to WDW.

We have never had a bug problem at any of the parks. Thats part of the Disney magic.

I do think the parks are pretty heavily sprayed. The only time we've needed anything was by the pool in the evening in August. After being eaten one night, we figured it out. Diana

I've never seen any kind of bug at WDW in all of our trips. I think they have pixie dust bug spray there.:D

Here's the other side of the coin. Back in 2000, not sure, I was nearly eaten alive by mosquitos at WDW. It was the first and, so far, only time that's happened. I didn't have bug spray with me but luckily my son was living down there at the time and he took me to a drug store to get that and itch cream. The welts from these things were unbelievable! :(

Ever since I've never taken a trip to Disney without bringing bug and itch medication. If I don't need it, well it doesn't take up much room in the suitcase. If I do need it, it's a lifesaver!

Pixie dust bug spray, cute! I do wonder what they really use, though. I'm sensitive to chemicals but haven't had a reaction while in the parks. Diana

We've never noticed a problem either, except while watching the ELP one night on the beach at WL something bit my DD and she got a HUGE welt on her foot. Must have been in the sand, and I don't really even want to know what it was!!

Also, while not an insect, we did have a little tree frog visit our room one night! It was really pretty cute, but I'm glad DS was there to remove it! I could see myself screaming for help if I had been in the room alone!:earseek:

I've never seen any bugs at WDW either, but I take bug spray every time we go just in case.

The reason I do this is because I used to be an operating room nurse. We had a patient one time, a 5 y/o girl, who had been bitten on the back of the leg by something at WDW. She developed an abscess, it covered the entire back of her thigh, and we had to go in and cut it out. Bugs may be very rare at WDW, but the ones that do survive the spraying are evidently pretty vicious!!

Well if your worried Avon has the sunscreen that has the bug repellant in it. It may still be on sale for $4.99, and it is supposed to be safer than the spray on repellant. I bought 2 for our trip.

Our daughter was in a stroller two years ago when we went to AK. The poor little dear became a bug smorgasborg. we had to get the extra strength cortisone cream and paint her body that night. Luckily the Poly gift shop had some.

I've been bitten a lot while waiting for Illuminations and ToD (RIP), but not while waiting for evening parades at the MK or Fantasmic.

If you're going to be sitting for a while around the WS at Epcot, I'd bring some just in case. They drove us to leave for our hotel around 8:30 one night.

Never had a problem in the parks.

Been eaten alive by "no-see-ums" at the resort pools and at Vero Beach.

They are awful. The itch is horrible.

Try to avoid the pool areas at sunup and sundown.

We were told the only thing that works in preventing these is OFF, which has DEET in it. We were apprehensive at first but bought some at Vero Beach because I was covered with red dots after one night. I looked like I had chicken pox and was embarrassed (sp?) at the pool. I thought people were going to run away from the pool screaming when I prepared to get in the pool.

Just confirming that Avon.com does still have the combo sunscreen and deet-free bug repellent on sale for $4.99. We used this last June on our trip to Disney, and it worked great--no sunburn or bug bites on any of our kids (and the youngest two are usually bug magnets.) Only thing we're doing different this time is avoiding the blue version.....was kind of disappointing to start the morning with clean kids and then have to smear them up with stuff that made them look dirty....(even though it did eventually disapper)...it got on their clothes too.

I went to walmart and bought a small bottle of OFF that will fit in my purse. I like the avon skin so soft stuff but probably wont have time to order as we leave in 6 days. thanks everyone.
