Bug/bee spray for wooden gym?

We just installed a wooden gym for our ds. Two days ago, there was a HUGE bee hanging around it. I looked, and nothing was on the gym - no nests, etc. Well, yesterday, less than 24 hours later, this dang bee made not one but TWO huge holes in the wood. I know it was the bee because it was partially burrowed in one and I killed it. I had no clue they could even do such a thing.

So my question - what can I do to make sure it doesn't happen again? Is there something I can spray but that will still be safe for my two year old? Thanks!

Carpenter bees for sure. We get them on our deck.

When you find a hole, you have to spray inside it (go to Home Depot and get spray for wood-eating insects/bees) and then SEAL it so they don't go back again.

I don't know if there's some kind of overall preventive treatment you can put on it to keep the bees away. However, once we sealed the hole (which is their nest) we haven't seen anymore this spring!

Call some of the local bug exterminator places, we have a company come out to our house every year in the spring and spray our deck, wooden play structure and house for bees and wasps. They warrenty it from May-Oct. that there will not be any insects nesting on the structures that they sprayed, if we start to have nests all we have to do is call and they come back out and respray. I am not sure what it is, but it is non-toxic and is safe for kids and pets once it dries. It costs us $200 for them to spray everything and our playstrucuture is huge.
