Buffets at Disney World

Hi,

I have two questions about dinner buffets in Walt Disney World. Maybe there is someone who can give me an opinion on one or both quiestions.

1. Chef Mickey or 1900 Park Fare?
Which of these two buffets would you recommend for dinner? I know there are different characters at each, but if you look just at the food choices and quality only. Is there much difference? The price for both buffets is the same, so you should expect the same amount of food and quality.

2. Another question:
Chef Mickey and 1900 Park Fare are (dinner) buffets with characters, but Boma and Cape May Cafe are also buffets, but without characters. The price for all these all you can eat buffets for dinner is $23.99.
Is the food quality of the buffets without characters much better then the buffets with characters? You should expect that the cost for a character buffet should be higher then a buffet without characters, but they cost the same.
Any comments.

Allready I'v decide to eat at Boma, but I would try one of the other buffets: Chef Mickey, 1900 Park Fare or Cape May Cafe. However it should be fun when there are characters around, the most important reason to choose one is the food quality and the number of different choices.

I thought Chef Mickey's was ok, I would go back. But lately I have been hearing good thing about 1900 Parke Faire so we are going to try it this trip.

Cape May had the best Breakfast Buffet by far so maybe that is a +for the dinner one?

1900 PF is much better than Chef Mickeys. CM's food is bland cold and over cooked and the place is very noisy. 1900 PF on the ohter hand has wonderful food and is much more relaxed.

The food at Boma is much better than any of the character buffets. IT is certainly worht the money. At the character meals you are paying more for the characters (but the food should be eatable). At Boma you are paying for African cusine that is amazing.

Don't forget about O'hanas at Polynesian, it is an AYCE with table service. Definitely a good deal if you have teenagers or meat eaters.

I would definitely choose 1900 Park Faire over Chef Mickey's for either breakfast or dinner.

As for whether to eat at Boma or Cape May Cafe for dinner. My vote will go for Cape May Cafe everytime! We always go every trip and are never disappointed. Boma is good, and we enjoyed it, but it is not a restaurant I would care to eat at on a regular basis. As for breakfast, we have never been to either place.

Funny how everyone's opinion is different on these things, so basically, you should read them all, but then decide for yourself.

We went to Chef Mickey's for dinner during our last trip (December 5-12, 2002) and really enjoyed it. We found the food quality to be good, the service ok, and the characters enjoyable. My 4 year old son loved the potato-leek soup! As for Cape May Cafe, we were staying at the Beach Club (we're DVC Members) so went there. Frankly, I thought it was awful! Food wasn't good, service was terrible. Only good thing on that particular trip is that the same 4 year old absolutely loves Goofy, and we got to spend lots of time with him.

We're going back 4/5-4/13 (counting the days!) and we have a reservation at 1900 Park for dinner. We're skipping the breakfast buffet this trip!

I skipped the 1900 Park Faire dinner this year because of negative posts - booked it when I thought the step-sisters would be there and due to negative comments, decided to save the $. We have done breakfast there and it was really good!

I thought Chef Mickey's was really pretty bad for dinner, loved it for breakfast though and I wasn't expecting much. Definitely a must-do for us now! (pleasant surprise) For dinner, I thought it was really below par for food quality and not all the seats are great for the interaction with characters.

I think you're on the right track as far as paying for food or character interaction, but buffets are only really good if the turnover is high and the food is either replaced or refilled promptly. It stands to reason that Park Faire should be good. It is in their "best" hotel so poor quality shouldn't happen - but still could.

Without having 1st hand experience, I'd go with Park Faire over Chef Mickey's for the dinner.

I can only tell you my experience-- last month I had dinner at Chef Mickey's and dinner at Boma, paid $23.99 for both. Dinner at Boma was ten times better than CM's. Not going to speculate on why they can't get it together at Chef Mickey's, but it was basically the quality of a Luby's type cafeteria. The setting is attractive and the characters are good, though.

Based on our recent experience, I think I'll be sticking with breakfasts for character buffets.

This is MHO.

Chef Mickeys is the single most over rated restaurant at WDW. The atmosphere sucks, the food sucks, the service sucks. I'd rather eat at McDonalds. I'm not kidding.

1900 PF has one of the best breakfast buffets, and dinner is quite good, although not my favorite dinner buffet.

The best dinner buffet IMHO is CapeMay Cafe. It's a tremendous value for the money, and although you won't find characters there, it's still a great atmosphere and always good service.
