Hi,
Can someone please tell me what is the protocol about the buffets and kids?

We are on the DPP and have a few buffet's included such as the Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey. I know the kids have to use the kids menu whenever there is one available at TS and CS.

But do they allow you to have the child have some of the adult buffet items in addition the kids buffet items. In other words, not to have them pig out on the adult area but perhaps have a piece of chicken or a small piece of prime rib along with their chicken fingers and mac & cheese? Do they allow a child to approach the adult buffet (with an adult not alone) or do they ask them to leave and only use the child buffet?

Thanks for your help

Your children may eat anything and as much as they want on the adult or children's table. They may also pig out on only adult food if they want! You will see that the offerings for kids are just a few items. Adults may also eat from the children's table if they want.

Yep! Kids can eat anything they wish from the buffet....children's or adults section. :)

Yep they can eat whatever their hearts desire. I wish my kids would venture away from the childrens buffet once in awhile.

The kids will LOVE CP.....and YES they may eat the same as you at the buffets. I have never been to Chek Mickey's but heard it is great for the kiddos

At buffets, anyone can eat anything they want from any station, table or whatever. There really isn't a separate "kids" and "adults" sections. So if your kids want to pig out with prime rib, they can go for. If you want chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese, go for it.

I wish the "kids" designation was gone from Disney buffets. It really is misleading. The only difference is the price you pay.

I think it's designated so that when you are at the buffet, it's very easy to find the items that are popular with kids.

Tusker House had these tiny tiny food stations with the kid stuff on them. I bet they lost sight of the fact that it's Mom and Dad that usually dish out the food the kids point at. I saw a lot of bent-double parents trying to serve the children from the "kids selections." Probably lots of parental bad backs later on.

Tusker House had spice-rubbed rotisserie chicken on the "adult" buffet and plain rotisserie chicken on the "kids" buffet. But it would have been ok for spice-averse adults to choose from the kids table, provided they could bend over far enough to get to the chicken.

Not only is it allowed, but in our house, it's encouraged!
We have a rather adventerous eater that was still 9 on the last trip. We knew from a prior trip that the kids' menu of chicken strips and mac&cheese was not going to thrill her, so we opted for mostly buffet restaurants on the last trip. She's not a huge eater....just likes some variety and trying new things.
IMO, kids' menus should reflect the smaller amounts that younger kids eat, not limit what they can eat. We were a little disappointed at some of the CS and TS restaurants that served the same kids' meals, no matter what the restaurant 'theming' was. For example, at Columbia Harbor House, there was no kids meal option that included the fish and chips.
So long story short (sorry!) - head for the buffets!

BTW - DD will be 11 this trip and cannot wait to order off the adult menu! :rotfl: That's my girl!
