I need ideas for buffets to take my kids to. I'd like a place where there is both adult food plus childrens food. I'd also like a place where a fellow can get a glass of beer or wine also ;)

Thanks

MDF

I have never been, but I heard that the Trails End Buffet is good for children and adults.

we're planning to do the buffet at boma (AKL) and hollywood & vine (mgm) and germany (epcot)... all of those, i do believe, have beer or wine available... in magic kingdom we're doing crystal palace, but no alcohol is served in mk...

we're also considering ohana (@ poly) and donald's breakfastasaurus @ AK...

plus, we're going to mickeys backyard bbq @ FW! :o)

we're a family of big eaters and find we get our money's worth from buffets or all-you-can-eats...

my dd will still be under 3 the majority of the trip. under 3 is free at the buffets but do they ask? My dd looks so old and can eat a good amount. I almost feel bad for her not paying. Did anyone else come across the "almost 3" buffet situation - thanks!!

We like the buffets at Chef Mickeys, 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian, and the Crystal Palace. I have no idea if they serve alcohol or not. (Crystal Palace doesn't, but the others might.) You can get menus here: http://www.wdwig.com.

Suzanne, they most likely won't ask. My kids are all huge for their ages, and I've never been questioned. But look at your DD's health insurance card; it probably has her birthdate on it and you'll have it with you anyway just in case someone does ask. BTW, from what I understand you WON'T have to buy her a park pass if she turns 3 partway through the trip, but you will have to start paying at the buffets.

We have always had them ask how old DS was (they have to know to charge for a child or adult or not at all), but they have never questioned our answer. I would be sure to answer with, oh, she will be 3 ____ or she just turned 3 ____. Bet she will end up with a specail cup cake everywhere and I have heard that often they will not charge you for the rest of the trip that your child turns three on for meals either.

Trail's End Buffet at Fort Wilderness is great! The prices are low and the variety is great. We walked right in with no PS and they sat us immediately. This is now on our list of must do's when we are in Disney.

I believe mostly all of the buffets in WDW have both food for adults and a kids buffet. Most of them also have "adult" beverages you can order:p

Some dinner buffets & Family Style aka "all you can eat without having to get up and get it" to consider:

Buffets
TEB-that's a fun one (probably the best value on property)
Cape May Cafe-Clam Bake Dinner

Family Style
WCC- not a buffet but they have an "all you can eat skillet" which is "mighty" yummy and several kids selections on the menu and you're guaranteed a rootin' tootin' time:p
O'Hana-another "all you can eat" style and you can order a variety of kid's items-and some fun activities for the kids!

Character dinners (buffets)
1900 Pk Fare-Cinderella and friends character dinner
Chef Mickey's-all of the "prime" Disney characters there
Gulliver's-has a buffet and you can order from the menu, there's a children's menu as well

At the Parks:
Epcot-Garden Grille-character dinner- Family style
MK-CP-character buffet
MK-LTT-Family Style
MGM-H&V-Buffet

Not sure if you can get a drink at the MK restaurants or not, I know there is beer at the Garden Grille

:teeth:

Wow! Great info everyone. I really appreciate it.

I'm embarrased to say so, but in 10 years of going to WDW, I've never eaten at ANY of the buffets!!

I'm starting to look forward to it.

Thanks,

MDF

My DD was 1 month shy of being 3 and she ate free at all the buffets and character meals we had PS's for. They never even asked. Actually at the sitdown character meals they brought her own plate out.

I would not worry about it. I'm sure they are use to encountering this problem, and I'm sure they just trust that people are going to be honest.

1900 Park Fare had a kids buffet for Dinner when we went, with chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, and PB & J, at their level. It was really cute! Crystal Palace had the same type thing for lunch, I think. We really enjoyed both.

We also had a tall almost 3 yr old. We were never asked at the parks for tickets for him. At Chef Mickeys they were going to charge us until we nicely asked "isn't under 3 free?" and they immediately removed the charge and apologized. They were so nice about it, I felt kind of bad for saying something and we left a larger tip than we planned. LOL

Just a side note, on our last trip to Chef Mickeys, DS was 4 and fell asleep right after we got him a plate of food. We fully expected to pay for him and were very surprised when we got the bill and the CM didn't charge us for him at all. So he got a great tip too! :D

We love biergarten at Germany in Epcot. It is a buffet with some entertainment (German music/dancers). The buffet doesn't have a full kids section but has stuff like macaroni and cheese. My 2.8 year old daughter ate more here than anywhere and loved the music same thing at age 3.8. Drinks are sold here though we didn't have any.
