Hi everyone. Going to be staying at the Wilderness lodge for the first time this December, and thought about eating at Artist Point. I love steak, but have never tried it from buffalo. Could those that have had it, try and explain a little about it? Is it usually tender, does it taste like other steaks, etc.

Appreciate any opinions!!

I think it's one of the best things on the menu.
I've had it....it's delicious.
Quite lean and tender.
If it wasn't mentioned as buffalo, you'd think it was just a great steak.

Order this....you'll love it.
The salmon here is terrific, too.

Ostritch! It tastes like "beef bird". It's lean, red and tender.

I've had this before, and liked it a lot! It wasn't tough, it was nice and tender, and very flavorful..

I have not had the Buffalo Steak, but we have dined at AP several times, and I really recommend it.

Enjoy your stay at WL!

I should have my DH answer this, but he LOVED the buffalo! He asked the same questions, and it turned out to be very tender and very mild...not very "gamey" tasting. Regardless of what you try, you'll love the food. (If you are dining w/ anyone who likes fish, the mussels app and salmon entree are a must in my book!)

Artist Point also has a Wild Game Dish with Rabbit Sausage, Venison Steak and some sort of lamb chop. It was delish, but I don't remember if the chop was some sort of "wild" sheep or how it fit into the "wild" game category.

I can't answer your question. Sorry. I absolutely LOVE Artist Point, but I am always too tempted by that incredible Cedar Plank Salmon to try anything else. I'm about to pass out just thinking about it.

Mrs. Uncleromulus had the buffalo steak the last time we ate at AP a few years ago. While not "gamey" she thought the meat rather tough and lots of fat also. Not "lean" at all.
Doubt she'll order that again!!!

I've had the buffalo twice at AP and both times found it to be very good. The first time was a couple of years ago-it was a ribeye cut and it did have some fat on it but it was very tasty. This last July I had it and it was a sirloin cut similar to a NY strip and it was excellent-little fat, very tender and delicious. The waiter said that if you have it cooked medium well or well it will be very tough and not very good-I believe mine was cooked medium rare. I would definitely have it again!!

I've had buffalo steak several times, including at Artist Point and enjoyed it always. The whole point is that it's much leaner than beef...way less cholesterol...and loaded with vitamins. Obviously, there are exceptions....but if you find your buffalo steak fatty, send it back...that's definetly unusual.
Also, I like my steaks medium-well, but buffalo should be medium rare. Because it is much less fatty, it dries out much quicker. Even I enjoy them medium rare. Have fun...it's a nice restaurant!
