Buffalo Airport Question

When I was booking an overnight hotel in Buffalo for our flight to Florida in February, the hotel agent was saying that there is new direction that you need to be at airport 2 hours in advance of flight. We leave at 6:45am and since there is no customs, and we'll print boarding passes night before, I'm thinking being at the airport by 4:45am is a little extreme! We were hoping to have breakfast at Homewood Suites at 5:00am and then head over at 5:15 on shuttle. We've been through Buffalo airport atleast 4 times and have never taken more than 30 minutes to get through Security to gate. I think this is plenty of time being at security by 5:30 is good enough - what do you think?

Depends on what day of the week you are traveling and how many TSA staff on dutythat early in the AM.

If there are weather delays from the previous day it will impact on how busy the terminal will be.

I'm sure if you are on the 5:15 that should be plenty of time.

Take a look at BUF website to see how many flights are leaving the same day/time as your flight.

The Buffalo airport webiste has a travel alert right at the top with the be there 2 hours before thing. They listed times that were considered peak times to be there 2 hours before.

Where can you check how many flights leave the same day? I could not find a link

In September we flew out of Buffalo around 7 a.m. We too had printed our boarding passes the day before. The line-up to check our luggage wasn't too bad but we were in the security line for 45 minutes. There were a lot of announcements that day calling passengers to the gate for final boarding. Those announcements were followed up by "Flight *** has now departed. Anyone still in the security line should return to the airline desk to make alternate arrangements." That was in mid-September on a Saturday morning. I'm sure it really depends on the day of the week you're flying.

Use the realtime flight data link on the left hand side of the BUF page.

You need to check this info around the day of the week and the time you plan to travel.

If you flight is at 8:o0 AM check the status around 7:00 AM.

If you have a child that is stroller age, there is an expedited line for flight crew and families with strollers. It can cut quite a bit of time of your waiting to get through security.
