A "leak" regarding how we are all to pay towards the money used to bail out the banks and hidden as a "green tax";- Air Passenger duty to double

Currently Air Passenger Duty is either £10 if someone is flying to Europe and £40 for elsewhere.

From November 1 2009, Air Passenger Duty will be structured around four distance bands, set at intervals of 2,000 miles from London. This reform will ensure that those flying farther, and therefore contributing more to emissions from aviation, will pay more.

Those flying to zone A, which encompasses all of Europe, will pay £11, rising to £12 the following year; those flying to zone B, such as north Africa will pay £45, rising to £60; those flying to zone C, such as the Caribbean, the USA and India will pay £50, rising to £75. Those flying more than 6,000 miles to countries such as Australia, Cambodia and Peru will pay £55 next year and £85 the following year.

These increases in air passenger duty affect economy class travellers. Those flying business class will also face big tax increases, increasing with the distance flown. If you fly to Australia in business class, the current Air Passenger Duty is £80 but this will increase to £110 next year and then £170 the following year.

so if i book next years before 1st nov i wont have to pay the new prices??

I'm sure that won't be the only tax increase in the budget - there is an awful lot of government debt to pay back!

As Tim says this will only be one of the tax rises. Will be paying for current mess for a few years to come:sad1:

As usual the majority suffer for the few

Claire ;)

I understand that the country has to fund its expenditure somehow (or we'll go bust), but taxes on flights have already been hit exponentially. Half the cost of a flight is taxes these days.

Same goes for motorists - taxed to the hilt but it doesn't stop them increasing the taxes even more!

and then they wonder why the travel and car industry aren't doing to well :sad2: Sure, add on some more taxes in industries that are already hard hit due to the recession, nice one!

Nice one, GB, way to stimulate the economy. Keep taxing the one thing that we all need - a good holiday. What a bunch of completely contemptible incompetents (I was going to say a@@holes, but decided against it  )

Now you know you shouldn't try and get past the swear word filter Simon ;)

That sucks - tax charges on flights is already ridiculous. I'm sick and tired of paying to cover those pillocks. I should have been due a decent tax rebate this year, but I didn't get it because I was mis-advised by an accountant. As usual - those who bleed the rest of us dry know all the scams and loopholes though.

Don't get me going about tax, I got stung for almost £10,000 year my Mum passed away, after over a year of fighting them and losing Mum it affected my health. Decided to pay and put behind me and settle. Didn't owe anywhere near that but my health was more important. Annoys me so much the benefits we pay out... now I am stopping before I get mad again:goodvibes

What a load of pants this is. If those MP's expenses were to stop, they'd claw back 93 million quid straight away.

On top of that there is all the working tax credit and child tax credit that is paid out. The more kids you breed, the more money you get.

I was taught to go out to work, and pay your way, if they stopped all those spongers getting money from the state too, that would help cut the national debt.

I know someone who has 5 kids, only the husband works, earns a low income, and they have more income, than DH and I, with all the tax credits and working tax credits. We both work and I have to pay for child care to be able to work, and we can only afford to have one child. It just stinks, when they add a hidden tax on our lovely hols. Soon we won't be able to afford those.

I saw those poor people on a programme last week who lost their jobs at woolies and didn't get hardly anything from the state, and yet some people have never paid any tax or ni and get loads of dosh, free homes, etc etc.

No doubt I will have another rant about it tomorrow at 13.30, when he finishes mumbling on and on.

1,600 salaried staff at Vauxhall made redundant last night.
5,000 Vauxhall jobs at risk, even if GM sell Vauxhall and Opel to one of the six consortiums trying to buy them :-(

It does indeed suck, Tax is already extortionate on flying!

I think it's criminal the amount of tax involved when someone dies, especially if they actually have money or assets left. It's no wonder many people can't see the point in saving, very little incentive to do so now what with the interest rates drop and the fact that you have to pay for your own care in old age (should this become necessary) if you have the audacity to still have savings at that point  I know it's going against every bit of good financial advice but i'd rather have great holidays now than money in the bank doing nothing :upsidedow

OMG I detest the taxes I have to pay and my one luxury is a holiday every few years and I am more than taxed on that already. :sad2: what a sad, sorry state of affairs.

like they say only things certain in life is death and taxes. welcome back Obi long time no see, hope your going to stay around, make the boards fun and better.
What they do now is leak a few things (what ever happened to budget Purdah which they are supposed to observe ) see what the reaction is then tone it down a bit and say it ant as bad as you thought
Paulh

Not to mention the eborders law which means no more spontaneous trips abroad without government permission. If you go without giving the 57 questions the government want to can get fined up to £5000!!!! This country is rapidly becoming a prison.
