budget thread for US/IOA

No FOTL for us, but great offsite pricing with three bedrooms...:cool1:
Not as much commando planning? Drat! I rather enjoy that part. :rotfl2: WE are the family you see at rope drop, all holding hands and in matching homemade shirts, ready to race to the first ride on our touring plan asap!
hey, old habits die hard:rotfl:

i'm the peep with MM crocs & a tshirt in Universal:rolleyes1 ; gets us lots of attention from the charactars;)

I agree, I was wearing a tinkerbell shirt and they kept telling me I was in the wrong park! To tell you the truth I have never even been to Disney. Uni just seems like more my cup of tea! LOL! but that still hasn't prevented me from trying to figure out how to make us all matching shirts!:confused3 :rotfl2:

does anyone have pics of the refillable mugs?
i've seen lots of different "types", from standard ones you'd see @ Q-E-Mart for a slurpee;) to a alien cup my DS got in MIB that was so tall the CMs couldn't fit it under the dispensers:laughing:

Spiderman one is nice imo, and there's a smaller size generic one that has a rubber handgrip.

So where can you get these mugs refilled? Is it carts, counter service restaurants, or table service restaurants?

Thanks

How fun! We have matching MM shirts, maybe we SHOULD wear them to US to see the reactions! Bless DH, he is a good sport!

Hey turning40..I love the planning part too...I am curious which resturants you are planning to try while you're at Universal...Care to share?

We bought the refillable mugs last year, bought ours at JP and saved us a few $$$, must see if i have a pic. will buy them this year again

Will I need to eat anywhere after I fill up my souvenier mug and refillable popcorn???:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We plan to do mostly offsite eating, since we get up before the roosters and pretty much muscle our way to the very front of the line for rope drop, then charge in full commando mode through the touring plan so we don't have to wait in long lines. Then we are hot, cranky, and hungry and we will head to somewhere we know the kids will be happy, like Golden Corral or CiCi's or Sizzler.

BUT, for the meals we do eat in the parks, here are my current possibilities: at citiwalk: Bubba Gumps would please DH and I, the kids, iffy. Pastamore at CityWalk will make everyone happy.

In Universal, Finnegans shamrock steak sandwich sounds tasty, or the Fish N Chips. The Monster Cafe counterservice Rotisserie 1/4 chix with potato and corn for 8.99 is probably a definite stop. Picky child can get pizza there, too, 6.59.

At Islands of Adventure: THunder Falls Terrace in Jurassic Park has ribs that will satisfy all but DD and she can get the kids macaroni and cheese.
Circus McGurkus and the Comic Strip Cafe seem to have almost identical menu choices, we will certainly stop there for fried chicken or spaghetti, and Circus has dippin'dots that my children consider a vacation must have! I am considering reservations for Mythos, as DH and I would love anything on the menu, but this is NOT budgetty....DD would get the kids steak but at 10.99 I would be inwardly cringing and praying that she would deem it edible (even though DS eats anything left over on anyone's plate!)
Blondies subs will make all five of us happy, and be a good lunch if we decide to stay through lunch and do more fun things at the park (depends on the August heat!).

Does that help you?

heres a pic DW and DD posing with the mugs.

Leslie -

Here are some of the places I've eaten:

IOA:

Thunder Falls Terrace - the chicken wrap w/fries is great!

Comic Strip Cafe - nice selection of dishes

The Burger Digs - great fixins bar

The Enchanted Oak - LOTS of food

I've also eaten at Captain America Diner, Cafe 4 and Circus McGurkus - all were decent but I would look elsewhere.

Studios:

Louie's - great pizza, pasta and salads

Mel's - burgers are hit and miss...when they are good...they're great!

Finnegan's - just about everything is good

Richter's - not bad...again hit or miss

Midway Grill - I had the Nathan's chili dog...HUGE!

Thanks for the pics...i have so many souvenir cups from all my theme park experiences... will have to take a pic and then post it.

Thanks for all the info on the resturants Metro...If you couldn't guess, eating out is a big part of our vacation...

I really want to try Sals. Have you eaten there?

I'm going to look at some menus.

You are welcome! I haven't tried Sal's but you could go and report back. :thumbsup2

So....do you have to buy the mugs from a CS or stall? or are they the kind you get from a gift store and they just fill them up for you?

Andy...we don't do soda or refillable mugs, but I do believe you can buy them anywhere w/ drink in them... gift shops also sell them.... ask mac...she's the expert :thumbsup2
