Budget MiniVan Splirge or Full Size & Frugal??

Need help deciding! Opinions please ... going March 16-23 with DH, adult son, DIL and grandson (2 yr with car seat). Probably 4 suitcases, maybe 5th smaller one also.

Would I be making a mistake to be frugal by renting a full size Alamo car reserved at $245 total or splurge for a minivan through Budget for $353 total. $100 difference! I don't want to ruin vacation by being frugal (okay, some may say tightwad).

Please help with your opinions!

I'd go for the minivan. Granted, your drive will be short, but it seems in every vacation you tend to "accumulate" things and you come home with extras.

I agree with PP, you should do the mini van, that way you all can stretch out and have more leg room!!. Either way, I say have a ball!!

We squeezed me, dh and 3 kids with 2 carseats in a full-size twice with no problem! Had plenty of room in the trunk for all our luggage...10 days worth including groceries! Now if any of you are very tall and long legged you may want to go for the mini-van or for 2 mid-size rentals.

Hey thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate your thoughts!!

I was leaning towards the mini-van. Afterall it's vacation and for the kids that doesn't come very often at all. I did use the x474200 code with budget plus found a $40 (I think, may be $30) code mupz044 through AARP (he he DH is eligilbe for AARP). It is showing $353 w/tax inc but without the coupon as I understand they deduct the coupon at rental time. I always used Alamo and never had a problem. Think I will grab it tonight!
