We've been really tight on our food budget over the last couple of months, and we were trying haard not to bust the budget for Memorial Day. Here's what we ended up with:

(We budget $400 mo for groceries for family of 4)

2 ribeyes thin cut, on sale for $7.99/lb and additional 30% off clearance $6 total
2 t-bones thin cut, on sale for $7.99/lb and an additional 30% off clearance $7

4 ears of corn $1

4 baked potatoes $1

Koolaid to drink for the kids and Ice tea $1

Brownies for dessert $0.88 plus two eggs and oil.

So about $17 total...

How did you do not busitng your budget?

DH went to the store "to buy some Yukon golds. They make the very best potato salad." He came home, and hour and two stores later. He enjoys cooking and firing up the grill the first time of the new season is practically a sacrament. We didn't do nearly as well as you on the budget, but we did eat well.

We had

6 potatoes(or half the bag that I bought for $2.50) so $1.25
6 ears of corn (12 cents each!)so .72
Grilled London broil. (it was a two pack on sale for $6) so $3 on that and we only ate half of the half but I'll count the full steak.
I marinated it in a lawrys marinade I got on sale for $.75

And some had jello for dessert(.30)

So we all ate well for a little over $6
