A friend and I are trying to go to Las Vegas next month. I have $600 for my half the trip. Think I can do it? Are there any budget forums for Las Vegas or something like that? I can't find any forums to look at. Can anyone help me out?

SmarterVegas is great for hotel codes. Trip Advisor Las Vegas forum also has lots of good info. Have a great time.

Excalibur starts at $24 a night. Nice location. Clean.

Hooters Casino can be had for $19 a night. Nice, clean.

What are you wanting to while there and how long will you be going for?

And will you have a car?

Oh, also see the Travel section of FatWallet.com for discount codes for Las Vegas hotels - but ASK on the Las Vegas forum here before you pick a hotel!

Go to all the web pages of the hotels you want to stay at and sign up. You will start getting offers with in a week. Also www.vegasmessageboards.com and sign up its like dis except vegas. they also have a furgal board that posts discounts. Have a fun time in vegas

Vegas can be done on a budget, but it really helps if you are going mid-week. The rate easily double, sometimes triple on weekends. If you will have a car, look into off-strip hotels like the Orleans, or the hotels downtown. Staying off the strip can save a ton of money. I agree about signing up for the email notices. You will get some amazing deals. If you sign up with the Orleans, you will get notices about all the hotels that the parent com. owns. Same goes for Excalibur/Luxor/Mandalay Bay.

Last year we stayed at Excalibur for cheap, but I wish we had spent the extra $10/nt for a remodeled room. The standard rooms are very worn. But the location is great. You can walk through a tunnel to the Luxor without ever going outdoors, and you can take a tram to Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

You can find really cheap rates on Fremont Street. Also the Tropicana and Imperial Palace have cheaper rooms. You can also find some good packages through the hotels.

I've gone many times for under $600. It really depends on how much you want to gamble as that is 100% descretionary. Food and drink can be cheaper.

I've mostly driven and taken a cooler of whiskey to my room. You wouldn't believe how many "Why didn't I think of that" comments I get.

Here are a few tips for you. I will be going next month myself. There is a website www.mommysavesbig.com click on the box up in the corner that printable coupons and then to the left in the column it says vegas click that it will come up with all kinds of stuff. If you like to pm me I have other stuff. it would take forever to type all of it out. There is alot of stuff. All kinds of stuff to do for free. There is stuff on ebay you can get for cheap as well. I use to go to vegas all the time. I have other websites you can look at as well. Jo

As others have mentioned, the Excalibur is a good and cheap option but at the far end of the strip. I think a better option is the Imperial Palace.....not great but adequate and mid strip. If you're a drinker my best suggestion on the strip is $1 Michelobs at the Casino Royale (mid strip) next to Harrahs. The Sahara is a little run down but also has $1 beers, $1 shots, $1 hot dogs and and $1 Blackjack (last I checked anyway) and cheap rooms. Food can be expensive but most of the casinos have McDonalds or similar options so eating cheap is easy going that route. Fremont street is great. If you stay there it is very cheap and one of the hotels provides free transportation to the strip. It is a fun atmoshere but I wouldn't venture out of the main area. they also have $2 Heinekens and Coronas all the time at the Fremont. The Nugget can usually be found for reasonable and is a great hotel. I recently booked air and 3 nights at the Flamingo (mid strip) for $303 per person from Seattle in September with a Saturday night icluded.......you just need to do your shopping and be patient.

The Flamingo has rooms for $35 a night midweek in August. The Flamingo is in a perfect location and has a fabulous pool. Does the $600 budget include flying to Vegas? That definitely makes a difference. If not, I think you can definitely do it on your budget.

There is some good information at travel2vegas.com

P.S. Bring the most comfortable shoes you own. You will do miles of walking in Las Vegas and it will be HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

here's a good resource for discounted show tickets:

i'd also recommend the ellis island casino for good, cheap food...off the strip a little but one of the few places in vegas to still have a cheap steak special... (the barbeque place at ellis island is also great). ellis island also brews their own beer and rootbeer so they have good deals on those as well.

as stated, sunday-thursday stays can save you a bunch. imperial palace has the best location for the price - but if you want to sleep during "normal" hours, take ear plugs since the loud music goes till 2 or 3 am.

Budget eating is buffet all day. With most you get all you can eat for 24 hours. Time it so you get 4 meals out of it. Late breakfast, lunch, dinner, then earlier breakfast the next day. You can eat as often as you want, so if you party late into night maybe add a midnight snack or just stop in for desserts for 5 meals .... here is a partial list of the rates. Some more out there if you do the research....

Tropicana $24 PP/Day
Excalibur $29/Day
Orleans $21/Day

MANDALAY BAY ALSO DOES IT:
Enjoy Bayside Buffet all day for one great price!
Monday - Saturday $38
Sunday $43

Best location is in the eyes of the beholder. Anything above Wynn is garbage to me. I don't do downtwon Vegas too much, but if I do the Duece bus is easy enough for a one-night stop to see the giant screen in the sky. I like the South Strip. Luxor, NYNY, Excalibur, MGM, Trop, Hooters Casino, Mandalay, the arcade underneath the giant coke bottle next to MGM, Monte Carlo, etc. Love those places....

Thanks for posting that, I was trying to figure that out online and kept coming up empty. From what I understand that a few of them you can go to different casinos. like just say mandalay bay would connect with planet hollywood. Do you know anything about that? Or which ones might connect? Thanks for answers if you happen to know. Jo

Yes, some are family casinos that share, but I don't know who shares with whom. Try some vegas message boards and sites. I have not been back to Vegas for over two years due to birth of our two kids, so I am not in tune with it. There is a website called cheapovegas that might help.

found one that shares For just ($34.99 for Total Rewards members, and $39.99 for non-members), visit any of the following buffets, as often as you’d like, within a 24-hour period:

* Carnival World Buffet at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino
* Flavors at Harrah’s Las Vegas
* Paradise Garden Buffet at Flamingo Las Vegas
* Emperor’s Buffet at Imperial Palace
* Le Village Buffet at Paris Las Vegas
* Lago Buffet at Caesars Palace
* Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino

That means you can indulge at all your favorite places to play, no matter where you’re playing!

Think you're full? Why don't you try crying to your mommy? There are more buffets to explore! No, get busy.
The “Buffet of Buffets” pass is good for 24 hours, with no limit to how many times you use the pass during that time. The passes are obviously only good during hours that the buffets are open. (Check the various buffets for their hours of operation. We are a Las Vegas blog, not an investigative reporter.)

You can purchase your Buffet of Buffets pass at the cashier of any of the participating buffets. Other questions? Post them in the Comments section.

Experience Sin City’s world-famous buffets like never before, for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Only in Vegas!

Buffet of Buffet passes may be purchased with Reward Credits. Yes, the pass is the same price for children. No, the Buffet of Buffet pass can’t be used in conjunction with other coupons. (Apparently, we are an investigative reporter.)

We're going to get there Tuesday afternoon and leave very early Thursday morning. We won't have a car. I figure we will spend most of our time walking around and seeing things. I won't have money to see shows. I've never been there, so I know there's plenty for me to see.
