My daughters 6th B-day is going to be on the 31st... :goodvibes We are having the party at a really cool place (gynanstics) Sooo it is not a cheep party and we ordered the cake which was about $50, so on to the Party goodie bags - we have invited 11 girls aged 5 & 6 and I am looking for goodie bag ideas... but I dont want to just give them "junk" I know how it is as a mom to get too much "junk" in your house... but I also dont want to just do candy... so thoughts... help.... but remember BUDGET!!!! :rotfl:

There is really no "theme" to the party - but my daughter is all girl if that helps...

How much are you looking to spend? I always do AWESOME non junky goodie bags and spend less than $5 each, but I plan ahead and get stuff on clearance.

You could do a Dunkin Donuts GC, my friend does those for $3.00 each, or a Valentine's Day McDonald's treat booklet ($1.00 for twelve coupons).

Or jumbo sugar cookies...get a gymnast shaped cutter, make them thick and decorate, wrap in cello and put a ribbon on them.

Is anything included with the party package as a favor? Seems odd for the cost. Places around here usually include a free pass type thing as a favor with these party packages. It may be worth inquiring about to save you some work.

I personally always love a theme, so I would go with something gymnastics related. A quick search on Ebay showed a bunch of "gymnastics favors" and some look like something you could make yourself if you wanted to be really budget minded.

we usually do (among other things, but you asked for budget) a little craft baggy full of different Character Bandaids. Last year this got raves from both the little girls and their mothers. Little kids just love bandaids. My daughter also likes to get little notebooks and a pen or pencil in a goodie bag.

she is turning 6 too.

I second getting items on clearance. You are at the perfect time of year to get some stuff cheap. I do this all the time. I get items that are meant to be used as a set but which can also be used alone and break them apart; I have all boys so i get things like Hot Wheels sets or action figures but you can do something similar with the littlest pet shop sets or a set of stampers, etc. You could also hit the dollar store and pick up some cheap sets of things like nail polish - kids love that stuff. Another thing kids love - which to our minds is junk but for them is totally great are the super bouncy balls. I got a gross of them for $5. Also right now there are play-doh packs with 24 tubs in valentine colors at the stores - very girly colors (pink, etc.).

ETA - and the metal mini slinkies. They had them not long ago at the Target Dollar stop. These things are awesome for girls and boys. Another ideas I just thought of - we went to a party where the mom included books in the goody bags. She picked up a bunch of gift packs of golden books and broke them up.

No there is not goodies form the venue - the birthday girl recieved a tee for all the kids to sign and then each kid gets a juice box.... but that is all... and I will be honest I was hoping for a bit more for the price of the hour and a 1/2 party... But hey it will still be fun...

Thanks for all the great ideas... I love the band-aid idea... :) and I was thinking about trying to do some kind of gynastics theme - but wasnt going to kill myself doing it... LOL... :) Shawn Johnson is from this area and so I think it will be fun to work on that too... hmmm "gold medals" in the goodie bags... :)

I've found gymnastics parties to be pretty reasonable here ($12 - $15 a head, depending upon the venue). You bring in your own cake, drink, pizza, and decorations. How about hula hoops? I always give a gift-like item over a bag of junk.

My dd had a gymnastic party. I gave the kids ribbons that said gymnastics star-I believe I got them at the dollar store, gatorade, and a healthy sncak to take with them.

My DD went to a party a few years ago where the guests received a wrapped gift of an inexpensive hard cover story book instead of the usual junk filled goody bags. I loved that idea ... something to develop the brain instead of cluttering up my house.

If you are intent on doing the more traditional goody bags, stick to useful but cute things. Hair accessories, cute socks or novelty school supplies come to mind - you could probably find multi-packs at a dollar store or walmart, and divide them among the guests.

Have fun with the party

I always put a book in the goodie bags for my 5yo dd. If you go to www.sortfloorbooks.com, there are usually some good ones at a bargain price. Like the link below to Clifford's Tricks for $1.66 each book, and it kind of matches the gymnastics theme.

For DD's birthday this year, we had a cupcake theme, and we got the $5 If You Give a Cat a Cupcake books from Kohl's. I put them in a cellophane bag with a cupcake-printed ribbon (from www.ribbonsandbowsohmy.com) and called it a day. Everyone seemed to love them.

Alternatively, how about these stickers (http://cgi.ebay.com/Girls-Gymnastic...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20adf4a801) on a can of Play-Doh?

Oh I had never thought of the "gift" idea but that is great... I wonder if I could find a book to fit the theme under $5... hmm you guys are great and have got me thinking - THANKS soo mcuh

I've never liked the idea of the goody bags full of tossable stuff.

I've always tried to have a craft that the kids can take home instead or an item that went with the theme.

For pool parties, the kids usually got a 'noodle' or water gun. For the hula party, the girls decorated flip flops and took home.

I like the idea above of the hula hoops.....its fitting with the theme of the party and is something each girl can enjoy at home afterwards.

What about water bottles? Check www.orientaltrading.com
They sometimes have themed ones and and are usually $10 for 12.
They might have a gymnastics theme. You could tie curling ribbons or/and tie a balloon to each one to make them more festive! You could even fill them with a treat!

I made up DVD's for my niece's friends for her party favor.

I have a DVD Recorder and I get Family Channel and Playhouse Disney. I had Tinkerbell saved on the DVD recorder and added some Strawberry Shortcake and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes to make a 3 hr DVD.

I usually do a better job at Michael's dollar section and the Target dollar section than the dollar stores. I included, a Lisa Frank bead set, stamp set with 3 stamps plus ink, chapstick, Tinkerbell paper pads, Tinkerbell pencils, candy necklaces for $60 for 17 girls in November. I got a coupon for 20% off my entire purchase at Michaels, so that helped immensley. It was one of the coupon books you got at the register with a purchase.

Hello, I just went on Amazon becuase I was curious and searched Gymnatics under books and their were tons for less than 5 dollars! What a great idea!

how about ribbons... my little "athlete" likes matching hair and "T-shirt" (the shoulder ribbons). Cheap & easy

I am LOVING the book idea! I am going to use it for ds's party in March. Now to find pirate books:confused3

Op.. as a mom I love getting books for the kids and they love them too:)

If you do a search for gymnastics on BN.com, there are quite a few kids books in the $4 range. Free shipping over $25 too. Here is a link to my search....

Of you are looking for general goody bag treats, I got a 10 pack of bling rings at Walmart in the party section. Mine has bins now with favors for $1, $2 and $3 a pack. I believe they had gold medals there as well.

You could also check the Valentines section for pencils, small plastic slinkies, bracelets, etc.

I know you said that you didn't just want to do candy, but I do have a cute budget favor idea for you..... Last year, we did a "Pump It Up" party for my daughter. The party was sooooo expensive, and we let her invite a lot of kids so I really didn't want to spend a lot on favors. I bought big Hershey bars ($1/each from Walmart), wrapped them in construction paper and wrote "It was sweet of you to come to my party. Love, (child's name)" on each of them. Simple, and huge hit with both the kids and the parents (no junky gift bag stuff and I think most of the kids just ate the thing on the way home).
