I apologize if a thread has already been started, but I didn't see one.

I need a budget gift in the $10-$20 range to give to families (young couple, no kids; middle age couple no kids and older couple, kids have left home). I would prefer to stay away from booze as no one in a really big drinker and also stay away from gift cards.

Thanks

We do a popcorn tin and DVD for a movie night. (Just got Olaf popcorn tins at Walmart for $5!). So for kids, I will choose a Disney movie, sometimes old Disney classics. For a couple, maybe a romance or comedy. There seem to be alot of DVDs on sale this week.

I been wondering about this. What works for families with kids but also a couple. Maybe snacks and a gift card. I guess I have to think a little more.

This is a dumb question, but is there popcorn in the popcorn tin? Or is it empty?

I've done car cold weather baskets-- his and her snow scrapers, ice melting spray and gloves-- it was practical and appreciated.

I have also done:

1. fresh baked bread in a bread warmer basket
2. fancy cocoas and/or teas and mugs
3. cheese assortment and cheese board
4. fruit basket
5. movie tickets
6. dip crock pot and dip mixes
7. Caramel popcorn in a variety of flavors (sea salt, chocolate drizzle, vanilla drizzle)

I did a coffee basket last year. I got this cute black wire basket at Dollar Tree and put Dunkin donuts coffee (it was on sale at Walmart), travel coffee mugs and biscotti. There might have been something else in there I just can't remember but its a start. You could also do tea or hot chocolate if they aren't coffee drinkers

Yes, it's generally divided in three, butter, cheese, and caramel. Not bad for the price and what it is. My kids and hubby love it. We generally end up with at least one every year!!

Awesome! I usually don't shop at Wal*Mart but I am at a loss of what to get for my nieces and nephews. I wanted to give them something small (aka, cheap!) and then some $$.

My kids love getting them, and they REALLY love getting money! :rotfl: You can find them at other places, and they generally run about the same price. Good luck!

I've done a breakfast basket before that turned out really nice. I like Cracker Barrel for maple syrup, pancake mix, preserves, apples and coffee. You could do the same in the grocery store.

I know! I asked my 15-year old DD what I should get them (ages 14-20) and she said "money". No, I want them to know that I thought about the gift. "Give money."

Sorry OP for hijacking your thread :goodvibes.

I recycle popcorn and other such tins by filling them with homemade baked goods. This is only within the family. We all do it.

The tin is full of popcorn, usually three flavors!

Most dept stores/drugstores/etc carry the popcorn tins at this time of year.

In our house the popcorn tins go over well. Or even some microwave popcorn with some of that flavoring stuff would be cool. Pair it with a family board game or family movie (both on sale pretty cheap right now) and call it a day.

Do they cook? If so how about a gift basket with small kitchen gadgets and some of the bags of things like pancake , or muffins or scones. I would maybe put a real bottle of maple syrup.

I like tea. Harney and Sons and Tea Forte both have some lovely gift sets that feel really indulgent to me. Tea Forte's strange sachets in particular feel really special.

Also on the food/maple syrup front, fancy jams. Here, there is a woman who makes small batch jams you can buy at the farmer's market in flavors like almond lemon and cardamom plum and habanero raspberry that make excellent gifts.
