Budget friendly beach vacations near Moyock, NC?

My SIL is building a house in Moyock, and we'd like to combine a visit to her with a beach vacation. Specifically I'd like to spend 4 0r 5 days at the beach (on the water type rental or inexpensive motel) and then 4 or 5 days at her house. Can anyone suggest something close to Moyock...family AND budget friendly? Thanks so much in advance!!

Moyock is very close to the Outer Banks (20 miles or so). There is a good post with info. about the Outer Banks that appeared on this board last week.

Virginia Beach is also fairly close. However, in my biased opinion the OBX is much better!!
