Budget florida vacation ...how does this sound?

We love Disney and being on property with the dining plan. However we can only afford the value resorts and we need a change . ( However i got an AWESOME upgrade from All Star Movies to AKL a couple weeks ago :thumbsup2 )

I wanted to book the 5 night special for September but it's not possible . I wanted to do something diffrent with the kids and the Nickelodeon resort looks awesome. I heard its a vacation in and of itself. However I've heard alot of people say it's nuts to go all the way to Florida and not go to Disney so im confused:confused3

How does this sound ?

3 or 4 nights at the Nick hotel with the $79 dollar rates ( with taxes/fees ill round it up to about $600)
Mears transportation 90 round trip
Food/spending money $500
Airfare $600
I may bring extra spending money and decide to go to MK for 1 day .

I was also thinking of doing Coco Key if it's cheaper than Nick . I just want to go to a resort with slides and a splash area for kids. Nick hotel also have 4d shows and a character breakfast so im leaning towards Nick.

I am on the side of those who would say that it doesn't make sense to come to Orlando and not stay at Disney. First, are you sure that Mears transportation from MCO to Nick is $90 RT for the family?
Second, airfare and food/spending money of $1100 S/B close for either resort.
Third, I am not sure why a change from value resorts to Nick would be a plus.
Fourth, I have nothing against Nick, it is good, but it isn't Disney.

I went on the Mears website and round trip 1 adult 2 kids was $88 on the shared shuttle van . When I add it all up it's pretty close to staying at disney on the dining plan :confused3 I wanted to stay at Nick because the kids love the Nick characters and when I was younger I always wanted to stay at the nick hotel lol I was thinking i'd add in 1 day at MK. I wanted to do a quick vacay as cheap as possible possibly for October/November.

I don't know if I could go all the way to Florida and NOT go to Disney! It would be toture to be so close and yet so far. But you were just there, so maybe it won't be so hard.

I've heard good and bad about the Nick hotel but I've never stayed there myself. I considered it a couple of times when the kids were young but now that they are young adults, I haven't kept up on the latest discussions about it.

If you want to do one visit to the MK "cheaply", consider doing the MNSSHP in October or the MVMCP in November. The parties don't start until 7 pm but in past years guests with tickets have been able to get into the park at 4 pm. The ticket for the party is cheaper than the cost of a one-day MYW ticket. And the kids would get to do something that isn't available at Disney any other time of the year.

I think that if you have the time and the money to make it happen, then there is no reason not to take that mini-vacation. Go for it!

Listen, I love wdw world just as much as the next guy but can we get a grip on reality. It is totally possible to have a great vacation at other places.

Op, we've done Florida vacations that only included wdw 1 or 2 days. They were just as "magical". We've done Kennedy space center, which my kids really loved, we've done sea world and loved it.

You know it's like ice cream, there is a whole world of flavors out there and they are just as great as Disney.

I agree with the previous poster, try the holloween party to get your disney fix and then go do some of the other great things that are available in Orlando.

:worship::worship::worship: WOW!!! Thank you I LOVE your suggestion!!! The halloween party is right up our alley!! I went to Disney in september on one of the party days and I wanted to attend so badly but i did not have the money for the ticket. It's a great idea to get the party ticket and enter at 4:00 pm. We can hit all our favorites for 3 hours and than enjoy the party the rest of the evening and the kids will love trick or treating. It looks like we'll be doing a quickie vacay 3 nights nick hotel with 1 day at MK for the MNSSHP ! Im soooo excited i can really get my disney fix if I can squeeze in a late lunch at Kona before the party.Thank you :yay:

Im crunching numbers and it looks like everything is a go ! I got a great 40 percent off rate for nick hotel. If I fly in on September 11th and stay for 3 nights it's roughly $390 with the resort fee included . MNSSHP is on September 13th and with the advance purchase the tickets are around $160 for all 3 of us. Im so excited . Im going to keep this trip a secret and a surprise for the kids.

I'm guessing you moved it over to the Orlando board. I say "go for it". We have no problem going to Florida two weeks a year and only going into Disney 1-2 days. I get my fix and the family puts up with me! LOL.

I agree what about a BEACH vaca with the ocean? Sand and surf with surf and turf. Kids playing in the sand etc. Florida is NOT all about WDW.

A word of warning. The Nickelodeon Resort is on SR536, which is also known as Epcot Center Drive, and it is less than a mile from the WDW Gate.

Im glad it's less than a mile from Nickelodeon because that will make the price of a taxi cheaper to get back to Nickelodeon :thumbsup2

Beaches do not appeal to me at all because usually im worried sick that my kids will run in the water and get swallowed up by a wave. I live near a beach and It's pretty gross looking. Ive seen pictures of beautiful beaches in Florida though with really blue water .I would love to spend a couple days at a beach if it was gentle and looked like that .

I can not keep my mouth shut for anything. I asked dd if she would like to go to Nickelodeon hotel and she gasped so loud . She wants to get slimed! It was worth it to see that look on her face lol

I think Nick Hotel sounds sooo fun. And a MNSSHP is a great suprise to throw in. I know my kids love the pool and every time we are in Disney the beg to hang at the pool...but I think its a waster since i am paying for DISNEY not a pool.:rotfl2: I would do a Nick only vacation myself. Disney isnt the only thing in Orlando and you have been before. Go enjoy something different

We recently did Universal/SW/BG/beaches trip with a split stay at RPR and Nick Hotel. The kids LOVED the Nick Hotel. We did not do the character breakfast but we did do a few greeting sessions with the characters. The kids loved the slime. They also have mini golf & basketball nets. For a Disney fix we did DTD for dinner and walking around. It was really close. I would try to stay at the Nick Hotel Sun-Thurs for fewer crowds. Have you checked Priceline for a rental car? We go our for $15 a day--would that be cheaper than Mears & taxis? Also we did the MK Halloween party in September and it was perfect & you can get in at 4:00 so its like 7-8 hrs at the park. Fantastic. Good Luck!

(I recently posted some tips for staying at the Nick Hotel)....

Thanx everyone I am so excited for this trip !!We really do need to do something diffrent . We've been to Disney 3 times in one year and while we love POP the second trip there just seemed a little too been there done that. Im really looking forward to the 4d shows at Nickelodeon . We LOVE,LOVE,LOVE Mickey Phillarmagic and this show is very similar .

Avic I agree with you with the pool thing. Everytime we are at the resort I'd rather be at a park . Most trips we stay 5 nights so there really isnt a pool day so we try to squeeze it in when we stay at Disney.

Ltl engine im going to look into a rental car but i doubt I will get one. We are only leaving Nickelodeon property one day for MNSSHP . I would definetly get a rental car if I was staying longer and visiting more parks so the shuttle just makes more sense .
