I decided to save some money and instead of buying the fancy bakery cupcakes for DD's birthday, I would make them. Since I don't have a lot of decorating talent I thought cupcake cones would probably be a good choice. I wanted to know if anyone has any good tips for baking or transporting these. Also, can I make them a day ahead and still have them be okay. The directions say to make them the same day.

Thanks!

I did these by standing the cones up in a muffin pan to cook them. Fill the cones about 3/4 full so they will have puffy tops. I then used icing in a decorator bag with a fancy tip, and loaded the icing on so that it looked like a soft-serve cone. I added sprinkles to the top. They came out cute and were a big hit with the kids. but more time involved than I had thought. I did make them the night before. To transport, I cut holes in a cardboard box, and covered the box with foil. Good luck!

I've transported these on a rectangle piece of styrofoam with toothpicks sticking out & then stuck the cones onto the toothpicks! Worked out really well!

My mom used to get the flat cardboard case boxes that hold 6 packs of soda cans at the grocery store. they're like "trays", plus if you just turn the tray upsidedown and use an X-acto to cut an "x" across the center of each "circle" (the identations from the soda cans!), you can slide a cone into each one and it works like magic!:thumbsup2

I made these for a class party when my twins were small. They were in separate classes so you can imagine how many I made! My "girls" are 25 now, and can you believe some of the kids that were in their class still to this day tell me how good (and fun) those cone cupcakes were! :)

Thanks for all the transportation ideas! Off to look for cardboard or Styrofoam. I think that I will try making them tonight, since it sounds like that won't be a problem.

:cool1:I hope mine go over half as well as yours did!

Try a box mix that has pudding in the mix. Usually that type of batter stays alot more moist and would be better the next day.
Not sure the brand I used before but it was printed directly on the box.

I used to make these often when DD was little. I brought them to school functions at least several times a year.

I always made these the night before - I simply never had the time to bake them the day of...and let them cool enough to frost.

Well the cupcake cones are off to school. They turned out really well I am happy to say. DD is thrilled with them. She even insisted that SHE be the one to carry them in to kindergarten:scared1: but I 'think' they all made it in one piece!:rotfl2: I ended up cutting holes in two rice krispy boxes to each hold 12 cones. Then I put each box in it's own rubbermaid container and it seemed to work pretty well. Thanks for all the help everyone!
