Budget Buster vent-Speeding Ticket

OK True story! My girlfriend told me that when she was growing up she can clearly remember that fights that her parents used to have about speeding tickets. It seems that her father wanted speeding tickets to be part of the monthly family budget!!! :rotfl2: He got sooo many of them that they had to budget for them!!! Also true- same friend failed her first driving test because she was taught how to drive by her father. Speed Limit signs? "those are only a suggestion" and the Stop Sign? "another suggestion- you don't have to actually stop, just slow down and look" :lmao: I know her father who is now 73 years old- still driving and still as crazy as ever!

:rotfl:, so let me guess, YOU do all the driving and she is ALWAYS the passenger? ;)

DH got a speeding ticket in Bristol VA going to TN for Christmas one year. The cop said he was doing 86 in a 60.....Which to this day I still say he wasnt doing 86 cause im the nag and nag him to death about slowing down, anyhoo, He went to court and he was there all day long and the judge said to him "are you sorry you were speeding?" Dale said "sure" and the judge said "Ok, good enough for me, go home." and THREW IT OUT!!! I got a speeding ticket in Bluefield West Virginia and it was for doing 52 in a 45 and I got a ticket for $250!!!! Went to court and they wouldnt reduce any of it.....Luckily I didnt get any points cause it was only 7 over.....Hes a lucky son of a gun....

Well I looked at DH's ticket and we'll actually be in Disney when his court date is scheduled for. I should have thought about this yesterday but I called my brother-in-law who is a Fire Chief around here. He's actually friends with the officer who gave DH the ticket! So, we'll see if anything can be done. (fingers crossed) I should probably just let DH accept responsibility for it, but I really don't want our car insurance to go up.

It amazes me that some car insurance companies are so quick to jack up rates! I've had the same insurance company since I was 15 and got my learners permit. When I was 19? 20? I got a ticket, 10 over the limit, and I just paid it. Rates never changed. Last year, we got rear-ended and the car got totaled. Again, rates didn't change. We even paid the deductible and went through our company (they offered us a significant amount more on the totaled car).

I feel the OP pain! :guilty:My husband just got a ticket here in NY state recently. :sad2:He's scheduled for a court date in May. As it stands the ticket will set us back over $200.00 :scared1::eek:. And yes, we too could have used the money for our upcoming Disney trip in August. He has no points or prior tickets, so I really hope it will be reduced.

I'm the budget person in our family ... and I'm the one who got a speeding
ticket. It was last fall and I was so irritated with myself. The ticket was over $100, but my major financial concern was the car insurance.

Well ... I just recieved my first car insurance bill since the "incident" and my insurance rates have gone up a whopping $18 for the 6 month period. I know the speeding ticket is on my insurance record b/c it is listed right there on the policy. Definately not as bad as I had feared. That was my only speeding ticket, ever, so maybe that helped?

Mistakes happen.

I once got a speeding ticket going through Indianapolis. I had the cruise control set at 70 and did not adjust it when the speed limit dropped as I entered downtown. I admitted I was distracted.

I pled my case to the officer who stopped me and apologized. I had just been on the side of the road trying, and failing, to revive a car wreck victim using CPR. After an hour of tending to the victim and giving a statement to the traffic officer (different officer than the one who stopped me) I resumed my trip. I was a mess and had blood smears on my clothes.

The officer walked back to his car, got on the radio, and I waited. He came back and said he was checking my story. He thanked me for helping out with the wreck and still handed me the ticket for $185.
