I swear, I don't know what it is but we have been hit by one budget buster after another. I am sitting here with 3K in medical bills. I have already paid for a few $500.00 expenses for this and that, and now that we are back from Baltimore, we come home to find our sewer line is blocked or something. The cap in the yard has come off and water is pooling around it. Nice huh? It's half way from our house & the street. My guess is that a tree root or something is blocking it. I have no idea, but I am guessing this is going to be expensive. DH is stressed, as always, so tonight has been less than fun. We are about 150 feet or more from the road, so replacing this... :scared1: Any advice? I am calling the city tomorrow to see what they can do. If we have a tree root, we have to fix it, I know that much.

I didn't have the busted area in the yard but what I did have was slow plumbing and toliet flush. I also have a tree that is very close to the house. It is the healthiest tree in my yard. All that poo keeps the leaves green for a long time.

What I did was call rotor rooter to come out and snake the sewer line. They used a power one that had some sort of claw chopping thing on it. They did it and it cost about $300 (not too awful) and cleared out all kinds of tree roots. It took them about 90 minutes to do and went all the way to the main city line. Now every 6 months, I pour tree root killer down my toliet to take care of those pesky roots.

It may not be as bad as you think.

Thank you so much for telling me this tonight. My stomach has been in knots. Also, I have never heard of flushing tree root killer down the drain, so I need more info on that. Our yard is FULL of trees, in the lower area not close to the house, so I wonder if the tree root killer would harm the trees

I just noticed that you are from Baltimore. We just spent 7 weeks up there, in the Owings Mills area. It's beautiful up there.

karice2, you hit the nail on the head with this one! It was tree roots and they were able to clean the line out with this wire thingy and it works fine now. It was $252.00, whew, much cheaper than I thought. :cool1: I also asked him about the tree root stuff & he is going to check on it and let me know. He said that they can get it, but it's normally a once a year treatment. I was happy about that too.

Thank you again!!:)

Usually if it is between the clean out and the street it is citys' resposibility to fix. But if you do have to fix it you can call any sewer company and have them come and use a cable machine as the PP stated. The company I used to work for charges $125 per hour for residential service. Usually service like that should be done within an hour. We also sold root killer and I believe it was priced at $20 a jug and I think was to be used every month. Sorry can't remember the exact specifics on that. But root killer will only work after you already have the roots cut out of you line it is for preventive maintenance not to cure the problem.

I am in Maryland so of course prices are going to very area to area and business to business so just call and compare. First though call the town and have them come out and check wether it is their issue to really save you some $. Good luck and although an unneeded added expense it's not anywhere near as you are probably thinking or it could be :goodvibes.

:confused3Oops! Sorry didnt read pass the first couple posts to see this was from yesterday. Well glad to see you got the problem fixed.
