The nice thing about singulair is that if allergies are triggering the asthma, it can also help to control some people's allergies.
I have been on it for almost 10 years now and I went from using my inhaler daily and having to switch prescription allergy drugs every 3-4 months (along with the singulair) to really really good control with singular by itself. I do still need to hit an allergy med like allegra, but that is only when the mold count starts to top 75k now instead of every time it even thought about moving 1 point.
Also, shop around at different pharmacies. The cost of each medication will vary from place to place. I've seen the original price from Singulair as low as $110 at one pharmacy. For me, the cost doesn't matter since my minimum payment is $20, and (depending on the pharmacy) my total cost is in the $20-$24 range.
