If you buy a coupon from Angie's list and the contractor does not perform the work, you are out the money. Angie's list claims no involvement with coupon once they sell it. Also, careful of those good reviews. They aren't always accurate. We were just taken for $300. Ugh. And, fwiw, we are not the type of people that are impossible to please.

Just thought I would warn people so they won't get taken like we were. Stick with Yelp. :)

Sorry that this happened to you. My DH is a contractor and owns his own company I am not sure where you live but here in New York we are required to be licensed by the dept of consumer affairs. You should check and see if it is the same where you are and file a compliant it may not get your money back but at least it may stop them from doing it to someone else.

Since you bought it through Angie's List, I'm guessing you must have charged it to your credit card. Could you open a dispute with them over the charge, for non-receipt of services?

Yeah, they are required to have licenses here, too. I should do that.

I bought a roof repair coupon off Angie's list and had a good experience. It was $99 and they replaced several shingles that had been blown off in a storm. In sorry you had a bad experience. Hope you get your money back.

You may want to contact your local District Attorney's office and lodge a consumer fraud complaint. Not sure where you are but based on your name maybe California...if so most offices will have such a unit.

Against Angie's list or the contractor? :)

I have great success with angies list. But what I do when I'm thinking of using a coupon. I go to the website of the contractor and then call to set up arrangements to make sure I can get the work I needed done.

For example. I recently purchased a 99 dollar coupon to install a ceiling fan (every one says it's pretty easy but electricity is one are I don't DIY). Anyhoo I called the contractor, made sure he could come do the work timely and then told him I was using a angies list coupon.

A couple of times when I've done this, the company honored the coupon price without me even having to buy the coupon.

I just brought (5 months) a new home that's old, lol. so I've got a lot of projects on the board. the big one is I'm finishing my basement so I'm really getting my money's worth out of angies list.

My deal was 6 mo pool service...they came 1 mo. :(

that's definitely a contractor that hasn't lived up to his contract. Get in touch with your states attorney general, your credit card and bbb.
You basically paid for a service (no matter where) and have not received it.

ETA: and don't forget to go back on Angies list and write a scathing review. every company/contractor who has been through my house (painter, electrician, hvac and general contractor all in 4 months) always ask me to leave a review, so they definitely use them and don't want negative ones.

I would lay out the whole scenario in the intake packet. The unit will work out who is responsible for what [was the contractor paid by Angie's...etc.]

Another thought I had, you mention its a contractor, but another post seems to suggest its a person who offers monthly pool service. If it is a CONTRACTOR [as in they build pools, etc] then you may have some recourse going through the Contractors' State License Board [at least in CA]. If it is merely a person who cleans and chlorinates pools on a contract basis, likely not. In any event, worth a call to their intake to check.

Good Luck!
