My DD's class is looking to do a baby shower for her teacher who is due next month. We are short on time and def. looking for it to be budget. Any ideas for games, treats, etc. This is a first grade class and the shower will be done during school hours...so we will probably have a time limit also.:goodvibes

Some moms & I did a baby shower for my son's kindergarten teacher. We contacted the art teacher & during art class, the students each drew a picture of the teacher and her new baby on nice 8 x 10 paper. Then we put the pictures in a scrapbook for the teacher.

For the party, we decorated the room with pink crepe paper streamers & balloons & ordered pink cupcakes from the cafeteria.

We played silly baby-related games that the kids loved. We brought in some baby dolls and had relay races to diaper the baby and put a onsie on the baby, etc.

We also bought plain bibs and fabric paint & (with alot of supervision) had the kids decorate the bibs during the party.

We invited the teacher's parents & her hubby & his parents too. The kids were very good at keeping it a surprise. All together i think the party was only 45 minutes, but was a special way for the class to share their excitement for their teacher.

We did one for the preschool teacher last year & had each student bring in a picture of themselves when they were a baby. The teacher had to guess who was who--she loved it!

As far as a gift, one class did a set $ amount & they bought something off the baby registry from that while another class had each student bring in a book for the baby to start off her collection. Both were hits!

You didn't ask my opinion, but I'm going to share it anyway. As a teacher it would make me very uncomfortable being given a shower by my students. You have to be so careful about the "free public education" clause in the Constitution. If the parents are asked to contribute money or gifts, it's just not right.

As a parent, these sorts of things infuriate me! Showers are for peers, not people who have authority over you. I've given gifts the couple of times my kids have come home with the notes, but nothing of any value. For instance, one time we took pages out of an old ABC book we got at a garage sale and put three of them in Dollar Tree picture frames.

I don't have any problem with a celebration. When a coworker was expecting I had my class make a "Handy Tips for New Moms" book. They wrote their tips on index cards. I put the cards in a .99 photo book and we presented it to the teacher. She got a kick out of it and it didn't cost the parents or the students anything.

I LOVE :lovestruc the idea of having each student color/paint pictures of teacher & her new baby!! :goodvibes And if any of our teachers were expecting, I would be thrilled to provide a gift or go in with other parents on a gift. We always buy Christmas/Valentine's/end of year gifts for our teachers anyway. It might even be fun to bring one of those heartbeat microphones to let the kids listen to the baby's heartbeat (if the teacher says it's okay, of course!)

If you have a parent or two in the class who can sew- you could have each student draw a picture on a fabric square with fabric markers. Parent(s) can sew together for a simple baby quilt.

I did this with my girl scouts for my coleader, and they sewed it. They were in second grade, but honestly the most trouble was the mom who said knew how to sew and would help. :rotfl:

I understand what you are saying and truthfully we are not focusing on the present aspect. We are asking parents to give $5 if they can afford and we will put the money together and buy a gift off the registry. Our main gift will be a book from the kids that will involve each student drawing a picture and writing "baby advice" for the teacher. We figure that will be a cute gift that will basically be free :goodvibes

As far as food I think we are going to keep it simple...I was more looking for some budget games or decorating ideas that would be fun for the kids to play. All of the kids are very excited for their teacher and while they are not peers I still think that they will enjoy the shower just as much as their teacher would :goodvibes

We did a book type thing for my dd's 4th grade teacher. The theme was 'Mrs G will make a good mommy because.." and they each drew a picture. They were all so cute. We laminated it and she loved it. We also gave her a basket of books. I made cupcakes and another mom made cute chocolate lollipops in baby shapes. For another teacher we bought a cake and parents sent in little gifts that we filled a basket with ie: booties, rattles, sippy cups. We did a laminated book for that teacher too, the kids drew a picture of the teacher and baby.
