We want to stop in Atlanta for 1 day on our way to FL. Where could we stay that will be cheap, think $100, for one night that would get us close to the Centennial Park area?

We've looked at downtown/midtown hotels and with parking fees it's close to $200. I read that staying in the Perimeter area is close to an hour drive with traffic.

We just want to check out the GA aquarium, World of Coke and the MLK National park.

I don't think you will find too much that's decent in that price range around the dwtn aquarium, WOC area. I stayed at a residence inn a few blocks from aquarium last time that was nice, but it was around 150 i think. I think most hotels have parking fees in that area but not sure.

Go to bing maps, zoom in to the peachtree area, near the cnn center, centineal park, the westin. There are many motels in that area that are really close to everything. Most do have parking fees, but you should be able to find something around your budget, maybe a little over. I have only stayed at the Westin before, but there are many other motels in that area.

I'm not sure about the hotels & such but always remember that traffic is horrible in Atlanta at nearly anytime of day...especially getting in downtown.

You can always stay around the Perimeter area & use the Marta to get downtown. Just a thought.

We always stay in the Perimeter area. There is a Hilton that we usually stay at, it used to be a Doubletree. Great area...lots of food choices, Target, Publix, etc... We go to Atlanta several times a year for weekend trips.

We usually stop in Smyrna, GA. It's about 10 miles pass downtown. I stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites there. It's a small hotel. It's clean, has a very small pool and has a descent free breakfast - no big deal. Why do we go back, because it's right off the highway - literally. It is a red roof inn next door (they share a common lot) which is only like $50 a night. It's newly rehabbed (so I'm reading on tripadvisors and has some really wonderful reviews) so we might try that one out. I do want to confirm that the doors are not outside. That kind of creeps me out - in a 'strange' city.

Hi, I live in Marietta and often get a room downtown for a night out with the girls, or even for just a date night. The Westin Peachtree Plaza is an Atlanta icon, and is right near all that you want. They often have special packages on their website that includes tickets to the attractions but to get a really good deal there....pick up the phone and call. The front desk staff is extremely nice and very hospitable. I have never paid more than $110 for a 1 bedroom suite (because they upgrade often, too!). Be nice, compliment the area, and they will pull out all the stops for you. My parking has always been included, as well...which is a big plus down there. :thumbsup2http://www.westinpeachtreeplazaatlanta.com/

Also, for the attractions, I recommend City Pass. :thumbsup2 http://www.citypass.com/atlanta

Last resort, Priceline yourself a hotel down there at the price you want. I have done that many times as well and have never stayed anywhere bad. You will find most of the hotels in that area have pretty much the same level of amenities, etc. since they all cater to business, convention and tourist type travelers.

We went last month and stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cenntenial Park. I used about 12,000 American airlines points that were about to expire, so I'm not sure if it would fit your budget. It did have a small indoor pool, and a perfect location. It is beside the aquarium, and has a Johnny Rockets next door for a quick lunch with kids. Self parking was $20, valet was $26. The city pass would be your best bet for attractions, but you can redeem coke rewards for tickets to World of Coke if you're not doing city pass.

The Aquarium and the World of Coke offer a combo pass, probably better than a city pass if you are only there for one night.

Also, I thought most of the hotels offered packages with those attractions that are in the area. Try Buckhead as well to stay, some of the moderate hotels are less than the midtown area. You can hop on Marta and ride into town as well.

We have used Priceline for midtown/downtown and have always had luck too.

We live in the ATL suburbs and have stayed intown for a concert, a long weekend, etc. many times.

We have used Priceline almost every time and always gotten an excellent deal. Use the Better Bidding website to review Priceline bidding process and specific hotels that people have gotten in different areas and star-levels.

Our most recent stay in Atlanta (a few weeks ago) was one night, Downtown zone, 4-star hotel for $57 plus taxes, which I think ended up at $73 total. Got the Hilton, which is very nice and in easy walking distance of Centennial park. Keep in mind that parking at almost any Atlanta hotel is going to be about $20/night.

If you stay in the Perimeter area, you'll have to drive downtown and pay for a parking deck to visit the attractions near Centennial park. MARTA, which is our public transit, is not bad, but budget cuts mean that, especially on weekends or at night, you are often stuck waiting for a train for quite awhile--very frustrating if you are tired and have had a long day!
