Anyone have a tried and true method for doing this? I have to wrap my dd's arm for Sunday's soccer game. Do you use packing tape to hole it on? One layer or many? Leave the fingers free?

Never heard of bubble wrap.

Um....an admittedly unsolicited question.....If she has an arm cast, should she really be playing? What does her doctor say?

DS14 is in high school now, and we've plastered him together through injuries for sports, but I'm realizing now that it just probably wasn't worth it in the long run, for the potental long-term problems.

I don't think that is allowed in our league. Parents of 1 boy on DH's travel team wanted to do this, and cover it up (he was the strongest player), but DH refused.

Neither of the leagues, nor any of the tournaments DS plays in allows any player who has a hard cast. It's dangerous to everyone. The child in the cast, and the opposing players.

If the player with the broken arm falls on the cast, they could do more damage. And the cast can be used as a club for all intents and purposes.

I don't think they'll allow her play, bubble wrapped or not.

I know that the high school football team had some sort of foam sleeves they put over cast for players. Call the Ortho who set the arm and ask them what they recommend for padding.

Have fun...

Depends on how old she is... they don't play as hard when they are younger.

If you are going to wrap it, I would use bubble wrap, if the small bubbles then wrap it around 2-4 times, if the bigger bubbles then once is probably enough... then tape it on, packing tape would be fine.

When my son was 4 and playing there was a girl on his team in a cast and they wrapped it with bubble wrap then put a sock (parents) over the whole thing so that it stayed on. I think they also covered her hand with something so the bubble wrap didn't bother her.

Why not let her play........ football players play with soft casts all the time, what is the difference if you are making the cast soft with the wrap?!

When I was at the Olympic Training Center I broke my wrist and had it casted. They used closed cell foam padding which works a lot better. We held it on with athletic tape. If I had to do it again, I don't think I would have been on the ice. I think holding her out for a week or two isn't a bad idea.

You can put the arm in a "club". That's what DD calls it. There was a boy on our varsity football team who played with one on. DD is going into athletic training and has been shadowing our school AT. She got to watch the AT put in on him. I would ask your Ortho what to do. No reason for her to sit on the sidelines if the doc says she can play and the rules allow for it.

I used buble wrap, three times around with clear packing tape for my DD. Worked fine and she was thrilled to play again. It was a week before the cast came off.

I believe the IHSAA approves carpet padding to wrap around casts. I know 2 families who took carpet padding and wrapped it around the cast then duct taped it on.
