Bubble machines in the parks

.
For all those bubble haters, the misting fan is like the bubble guns kryptonite. Arm yourselves with these and shoot blowers' bubbles out of the sky, like a ray gun. The bubble gun is no match for a good mist fan. You could be making small children, who love bubble, cry all day long.:thumbsup2
Take that BAM, POP, SMACK!!! LOL

side note: I feel for all the allergies out there, I didn't even know that. I have never brought bubbles in any line or will in the future. Just thought a joke for your side would lighten things up.

Brilliant, I never even though of using the misting fan defensively! You DISers are always thinking! Can we use the misters to spray the whiny kids too? I can just see the look of surprise on their face when some stranger squirts them in the face, I would think it would stop the whine right in its tracks.

Like you I have never brought bubbles in a line (or in the park for that matter), we have only used them at home. However, like you I had no idea people were allergic to them, nor did I know there was such a large contingency that found them to be rude. Which of course was the point I was trying to make, that the people blowing bubbles probably had no idea they were even bothering anyone else.

And of course no one is out to annoy people... And would stop if asked.

The first part of that statement is undoubtedly true. A lifetime of experience tells me that the second part is as close to 100% false as makes no difference.

The best result you can generally hope for after politely asking asking a stranger to stop doing something that's affecting you in public is that they'll give you a dirty look and continue. Heck, even just pointing at a sign the prohibits what they're going is likely to provoke a negative response.

If I run into any bubbles while waiting in line I usually just pop them with my cigarette.

DD got her bubble machine at the store in the Imagination Pavilion at EP but I've seen them sold all over each park, both in stores and at carts.

I, for one, don't mind the bubbles; it's a little kid having fun. I am conscious of others being bothered by them though and therefore don't let DD use hers while we're in any sort of line or congested area.

As for distractions, a small snack is a good idea as is a small toy (either new or a favorite). If we happen to be stuck in TSMM "heck" I am The Mom who will let her daughter play a game on my iPhone. It's better than listening to her whine about how long we've been in line, "when's it going to be our turn?", etc, etc. If the people in front of or behind us have kids, I encourage conversation too as kids can talk to each other for days on end, about anything and everything.

Whoa! Necro thread! Where's Darryl Dixon when ya need em?

This is nothing. At least the thread is from this month. I'm on a different forum where posters will randomly bring back a thread that hasn't been posted in for years.

In seven trips to WDW I have never once seen a child blowing bubbles in line. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I've just never experienced it. Nor did I realize it was such a hot-button topic. I learn something new on the dis every day. :)

With all the talk about nut allergies... thought this was interesting

Ya, except the doctor who stated this:

"says Michael Pistiner, MD, MMSc, a pediatric allergist at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston and the father of a child with food allergies. Unlike a condition such as epilepsy or diabetes, a child with food allergies can be affected by the actions of others, such as being accidentally served food with an allergen, Dr. Pistiner explains."

So can a child with epilepsy, if a person uses a flashlight with a strobe effect (seizure) or a child with diabetes could be given a sugary snack without proper insulin correction. I'm hoping they misquoted this doctor, otherwise, he's an idiot, and a self-centered one at that.
