Figers crossed, I will be moving out of the dark ages of sloooooooow dial-up access to a digital ISDN Home Highway line from BT next week. :) (Broadband is still a long way off for us, I'm afraid  )

I've read their booklet, but do any of you have first-hand experience of problems I might encounter when trying to change over from analogue to digital?

I just have a horrible feeling that I'll suddenly have this wonderful speedy access, but be unable to access my internet and e-mail because I've done/haven't done something vital!

As you probably know Hilary, I don't have any knowledge of this but wanted to add some moral support here - heck! I'm scared to change providers in case it causes any problems!!!

I think Janice knows about this but won't be able to reply until she gets back from Spain! ........... but by then........ you'll be hooked up :p

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it all goes without a glitch :)

Hi Hilary

Shirley is right - I have Home Highway and my PC has an internal ISDN connection rather than a Modem connection. We had this when we lived on Canvey and it was one of the things I made sure was available in the new area we were looking to move to as I am so pleased with it. I find it superb 95% of the time and slightly less so for the other 5%.

One thing I would advise you is.......if at any time you do have to call BT because of any problems or difficulties, make sure you mention that you have an ISDN connection because you have to speak to a specialised person - not everyone is trained in ISDN.

I find the Home Highway suits our needs perfectly - we have one line for the office phone, one line for the office fax and the third line is my internet connection which I have 24/7. I have a seperate line into the house which is just an ordinary BT line.

I have just changed over our package too so I pay £47 per month - one off flat payment, and ALL calls apart from Premium Numbers. Mobile Numbers and International Numbers are free at any time so long as the call doesnt last longer than an hour. Being as I can be on the phone for up to 2 hours at a time, this is a tremendous saving for me on long distance calls.

If I can help anymore just ask :) :)

Well, it's installed and working......up to a point

After a few major glitches, I seem to be on an even keel at the moment, BUT if I re-boot the PC it then tells me there is no software installed to run Home Highway. Not a huge problem (I just leave the PC running) unless I have to re-boot because I get frozen out or something - then I have to go through the uninstall / re-install process all over again. Mind you, I'm getting quite quick at it now!

I love not having to wait for the dial-up process, and not feeling guilty that I'm clogging uo the phone line whilst I'm surfing, but I'm slightly disappointed that there isn't a more noticeable improvement in the loading speed of pages.

If anyone (Jan? LOL!) has any techie-type suggestions about how I can get my PC to permanently acknowledge the software installation, I'd be very grateful!
