Brunch then waterpark?

We are traveling in September and hope to finally hit one or both of the waterparks during our stay! On one of our "quiet" days, we are hoping to hit a Boma brunch, then head to a waterpark. From all the reviews, everyone says you need to be there at rope drop. Would this be true in September too? Am I setting us up for a rough day? I was hoping it would be a relaxing day......

Also, has anyone just gone to the waterparks in the afternoon? We are really trying to make this trip relaxing....not a ton of rush, rush, rush.

Any advice is appreciated.

We have done just afternoons in the waterparks several times. I've never found the need to get to a waterpark at rope drop - especially if you are just trying to relax. You can always do the lazy river, wave pool, or just lay out on the beach. We've found most of the slides do not have very long lines, just a few of the headliners.

I would think the bigger question is weekend or not and what is the weather because the waterparks are popular with locals. We are going to Typhoon Lagoon as our "relaxing day" and planning to sleep in a bit (which is probably 7:30am with my little guys), eat some breakfast, hang out (for once not run for rope drop!), and get there around opening or a little after. With lots of people n Sept on free dining and required to buy waterpark or park hoppers, I have a feeling the waterparks are going to be rather busy in Sept.

Thank you for posting this, I had the exact same question. We're also traveling in September, hoping to have brunch and then head to one of the water parks.

Looking forward to hearing more opinions or others' experiences if they've done this!

When we go to the water parks (we love Typhoon Lagoon) we always make sure we are there at RD or a little bit afterwards. We want to make sure we get a good spot by the wave pool and the bar :goodvibes. I just made an ADR for our Typhoon Lagoon day, we are planning on having breakfast at 1900 Park Fare at 8:05am and then afterwards we will head straight to the water park. I figured the kids never sleep while we are at Disney anyways and DH and I can just lounge around on the beach so no need to sleep in that day :goodvibes.

That's a good point. I didn't think about how the required water park or park hopper option would affect the water parks! We're going to the water parks for the first time this September. Hopefully it's not overly packed!

Hmmm....thank you all for your responses. Although I would like to get there early, I also know that many of my traveling party are NOT morning people. Maybe we can meet half-way and have an early-ish brunch. Hmmmm......

I really appreciate the input though as I've never hit the waterparks. My kids love them so I'm just hoping they are more relaxing than the theme parks for us adults!! (there are 4 adults total - me, my husband and my mom and sis. I'm the only morning person!!!)

TL opens at 10 am in Sept. So that's not the same as an 8 or 9am park rope drop. I love TL but walk out pretty exhausted from the sun, slides and waves. We used it as a sleep in day last trip for 18 and 22 yo "kids" haha. We just did grab and go breakfast and hopped the bus in our suits and sunscreen so they got to sleep until 9am which is pretty good at Disney. Then we did an evening at MK.

It really is up to you and what your expectations are. Lines for slides can be long, lazy river got super crowded after lunch and finding chairs will be challenging but if that doesn't bother you go for it. :)

Brunch at Boma is awesome. On another trip we did a later breakfast there then toured the resort, checking out the animals and lobby area. Then we hopped a bus for Epcot and did a lot of the non-headliner rides and WS. With FP+ now we could have prebooked FPs for later in the day.

Yeah, opening at 10am, and not needing to do "rope drop" in the same way as MK, I think that qualifies as sleeping in! :) But, seriously, Sept is low crowds generally, avoid a weekend, enjoy your brunch, and just relax!!!
