Brunch and tastings once on board

We were in Disneyland the night that onboard activities could be booked for our summer cruise. The wifi was not great and we did not get through until 20 minutes after it opened. We are silver so we were disappointed that even many of the excursions were sold out. From recent cruisers what has your experience been to getting a Palo brunch and tasting bookings once on board.

Typically, tastings are offered onboard. We have booked more on two cruises. I wasn't sure if this was still occurring post-covid, but someone confirmed they were offered on their cruise in the last few months. I have not tried Palo brunch. However, on our first cruise, we were able to book Remy dinner once onboard. I think they hold some of the dining back. If they are having staffing issues though, then it could affect that.

Tastings and Palo reservations typically do not sell out in 20 minutes for Silver. Maybe they were already gone, even if your connection had been better!

it is a 9-day cruise. We were able to book one tasting and a Palo dinner. I was so surprised about many of the excursions being booked as well. Maybe our cruise is filled with a lot of gold and silver families….it’s the only 9-day one. This is our first cruise since covid and we have been able to get tastings once on board in the past 🤞

Honestly - it’s hard to complain about not getting too much booked because I was waiting in line at Rise of the Resistance…..

Are you talking about the 9-night Southern on the Fantasy? That sucker is LOADED with Gold and Platinum cruisers. For the poor Silvers it was like looking at a carcass picked clean by carrion birds. Nothing left. We are on that one too and things were even pretty slim when we got to it as Gold cruisers.

That is the one we are on. In a strange way that does make me feel better - thank you!
A lot of experienced cruisers (how do you know that btw?). Maybe some will cancel some stuff along the way and we will still get some stuff.

We were on the WBPC which is a very platinum-heavy cruise typically. We had resos for Palo Brunch which I didn't get day of, but was randomly refreshing daily and managed to find a spot. However, we ended up losing the spot because my little guy was sea sick and we wanted to stay with him. (Palo was super understanding!) They did call us back a couple of days later to offer another spot that had opened up. My point is that you should definitely keep checking AND check onboard when you are there. If nothing else they will add you to the waitlist.

Every sailing we've been on since the restart, we've been able to book once on board. You have to be ready to do it, but each sailing has had openings, and that includes the WBPC, which was jam packed with Platinum. I'd recommend trying to connect to the ship's wifi before you even get on board if you can. We've waited until on board and managed to snag all the tastings that we had previously missed by those with faster fingers.

Keep checking online also. When we did the Panama Canal in 2020 tastings and Palo were all sold our by silver day, not surprising given the number of gold and platinums. Over the next 3 months before sailing I was able to get pretty much everything I wanted just by checking regularly. There were no tastings available at boarding time but I was able to pick up a wine tasting at the last minute later in the week.

We are on the same 9 night cruise this summer. You didn’t miss much the first 20-30minutes booking was open…I couldn’t get in because the site was down for “routine maintenance“.
I finally got in and was so frustrated to find only one of the excursions we wanted was still available. I was up until 2am reading through what little was available and deciding what would interest my family most. This is our 5th cruise and I have never had this kind of trouble booking excursions. But all in all we are happy with what we got and will have a great time! I don’t know about booking once on board. We’ve never had trouble booking Palo brunch until this time, but we did get Palo dinner which we prefer. What didn’t see at all was a character breakfast. I hope you end up getting what you want!

Many were gone.

Another silver victim from that cruise here:rotfl2:

It was barren. Everything was broken for 20-30 minutes. Then you could get 1 thing, but the next thing you tried wouldn't work. A lot of the tastings were already gone according to the platinums and golds on the social media group for the cruise. This is such a specialized itinerary, especially with DCL going to Dominica for the first time, that the platinums and golds swarm on it. They tend to like longer cruises with unique itineraries. You can only do the Western/Eastern Caribbean so many times before you get bored.

I am silver too and on that cruise. I could only get 1 tasting, and I am not sure I even want it. It's the Kickstart Your Morning. I think I would just rather order mimosas from the bar. I think more tastings will be offered onboard. I also think some dining will be available too. We really wanted to do the Remy trifecta: brunch, dessert, and dinner. I could only get dinner:( So I am really hoping to at least get one of the others. Heck, even massages were slim and none. I usually get one on the morning of the 1st sea day. The only mornings were on port days, and that's usually when we do excursions. I ended up with a late night massage on the first night. Luckily, we have main dining, so hopefully my meal will have digested by then.

Good luck. I think there's a chance of getting more stuff.

The excursions were brutal. I had prioritized those, because I knew that tasting and dining usually were offered onboard too. I lucked out and got 3 of the 4 ports that I wanted. Only my first pick was my top priority. The others were 3rd or 4th on my list. Once I heard from the platinums and golds that the excursions were really bad, I scoured through everything and had a list of prioritized potentials. They were saying not much was available when they booked. So, either tour groups are being limited or some excursions were never even offered. It also seemed like the variety for some places was less that I thought they usually had. So, either covid, staffing, or supply may be affecting these. I ended up booking an outside excursion for Dominica, which we never do. We've returned late for 2 cruise excursions, so I am always timid about outside ones. Good luck. If you are on the social media media for the cruise, people were suggesting outside excursions.

We have been very lucky. On two of our three previous cruises, we were unable to get Palo Brunch reservations, put ourselves on the waiting list once on board, and got a call the evening before offering us a table.

So even if you get on board, and are put on the waiting list, don't lose hope. It's worked well for us in the past.

Thank you so much for all the replies! It has made me feel so much better about the situation. We will try all the things suggested; keep checking, try at the port before we board (I imagine we will have a later PAT because we are only silver) and put our name on waitlists once on board 😊

I forgot to say that regarding tastings, these you should definitely check your app as soon as you board under onboard activities. When we boarded, there were lots of tastings that were not previously available! They went fast, but again check throughout the cruise as more may open up when people cancel.

how do you know that btw
It just seems that way from the FB group. I don't have numbers to back it up, just a general vibe on the group. Also, like someone else said, people who've been on a lot of cruises tend to be attracted to the longer cruises and/or more unique itineraries. This cruise ticks both of those boxes. It's really the only Southern this year. Previously the Wonder did some Southerns early in the year. We did one in 2019 and one in 2020 out of Puerto Rico and they are tops for me next to Alaska and Europe and I think a lot of others feel similarly. Plus, this year, a lot of those cruisers who might go for the other unique itineraries like Europe may not feel comfortable traveling internationally so they booked this as a fallback. We are Gold (this will be DCL #10 for us) and we tick all those boxes.
