I don't watch TV, so I had no idea what people were talking about when I started hearing about Bruce Jenner. I think that my opinion is that I honestly don't care one way or another about him. I'm a college professor and have had several transgender students, and I do care about and support them. But somebody who is on a reality show and is starting a new reality show doesn't really register on my radar. And I spoke to one of my transgender students today - he says that he does not in any way consider Bruce Jenner a role model. His (the student's) observation was "he's old and he's weird".

I don't see what you see in the past images of Bruce at all.

Yes indeed, look at Lance Armstrong - bout of cancer due to steroid use, check; testing revealed steroid use, check. My tally sheet on Bruce is blank. I haven't tested him either.

Steroid use and testing was much cruder back in the seventies. I have grave concerns about the health and wellbeing of the previously mentioned East German swimbots, although I have no way of proving that.

From what I understand, East German athletes of the era, swimmers and other sports, have developed various cancers and other health issues way out of proportion to the general population.

The drugs they took at the time weren't illegal, because the IOC didn't even know such substances existed. The East German sports scientists were always a few steps ahead of the testers. It's odd that the male swimmers weren't able to come anywhere close to the females' "success." A few of those female swimmers have expressed regret and disgust, realizing their victories are tainted, not knowing if they could have won on their own without being enhanced.

As for Bruce, I never thought there was anything suspicious about his athletic abilities. But I suppose it's possible.

I think it's very hard to say what makes you feel like a woman. I'm also not into most of the things our culture associates with being female - and yet I definitely feel like a woman (and I am physically female). It's hard to define or explain, and so I suspect that's why Bruce relies on these external things.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you; you're implying that Bruce Jenner is "transitioning" to adopt the physicality of a woman so he can feel like a woman? I thought the issue was that he felt like a woman and consequently wanted to look like one. Your statement seems to be the exact opposite of the premise of gender dysphoria.

If I was married to him and he decided to transition to a female, I would no longer be married because he would no longer be the person I married.

I have no respect for him. While others may choose to ignore it, I remember that he recently killed a woman while driving. He was basically daydreaming. I'm sure the family of the deceased doesn't think he's a hero.

I remember reading something about this crash. Was it proven that he was the cause of the accident?

Yes. But by some miracle, he wasn't charged.
