Brown Derby?

Brown Derby is one of our favorites. We go for dinner every time we're at WDW. It's very kid friendly. Last time we were there my nephew was with us. He's extremely picky eater but had just started eating pork chops. So the chef made me a plain pork chop with fries. He ate every bite and still talks aobut that pork chop. I usually get the cobb salad as my entree. But the rest of the fam loves their pork chop or fish dish or their steak.

My husband and I love Brown Derby. The atmosphere is definitely more geared for adults, but the service and food is fantastic, and they are more than happy to accommodate picky eaters. Our favorite lunch dishes are the noodle bowl with coconut-fried tofu and the Brown Derby Classic Cobb Salad.
Other restaurants at the studios that I feel are better for children include the following:

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater: Guests sit in classic convertable "cars" under a night sky. They have fantastic burgers and shakes - great spot for lunch.

* (Our favorite) - 50s Prime Time Cafe: Your server acts as part of the family, so you get a bit of entertainment with your meal. This place has wonderful food and is highly recommended!

Enjoy your trip!

Our fave too, but we go a lunch. Ask for an outside table (better with kids.) Cobb salad with a flight of wine!
:thumbsup2

I think everyone has different opinions about every restaurant because everyone has different tastes.

DH and I did not care for Brown Derby, DH got a steak dish and said it was very forgettable. We paid cash, so we weren't on the DP. We just were not impressed. It wasn't horrible, but I'm not sure we would go back. HTH :goodvibes

Its very child friendly...we took our son at age 2 and then went back last year. This is the only restaurant that my husband would eat at HS but we do eat also at Hollywood and vine for our son. Enjoy.

The food was good. We all enjoyed our meals, kids and adults. I thought they were very child-friendly. They let us bring our then 8 month old in in the stroller as she was asleep. When she woke up 1/2 way through the meal they got her a high chair.

We went to BD our last trip with a party of 9, ranging in age from 4 years to 65 years. I think that the restaurant is "kid friendly" in the sense that you won't feel out of place bringing a child, but I don't think that the restaurant has "kid appeal." The adults, I think, appreciate the decor far more than the children do. I thought the food was wonderful, but I was in the minority in my group only because the menu is somewhat limited. My mother and father, who do not enjoy "different" sorts of food ordered the steak, which was great, but they felt like they had no other choice because the menu is filled with items they woudn't ordinarily try.

In the end, if you have people in your party who are meat and potatoes sort of people, I don't know that they will enjoy Brown Derby since their options are limited. If you have the sort of family that loves to try new things, the food was well prepared and well seasoned and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We LOVE Brown Derby, and felt that the 2 credits on dining plan was well worth it. There were plenty of children in the main dining room, but we were seating in a small private room to the right of the dining room (maybe called the palm room? bamboo room?) and it was very quiet in there. I think it has appeal for families and people without children as well.
I would recommend trying to black grouper and the crab cake appetizer if you are into seafood. The crab cakes are to die for!! All of the desserts were great, though I don't care for the grapefruit cake, which is their signature dessert. Hope this helps, and that you and your family have a great trip!!

I really like the Brown Derby. I've eaten there twice and I had good food both times. The first time I was there my DS was 4years old..it was fine for him. As far as it being worth 2TS..if you are on the regular dining plan, you can always pay out of pocket..I did that last year with the Fantasmic Package. If you decide to go..enjoy your meal :)
