We have a full day planned for MGM on our vacation and must choise between the Brown Derby and Mama Melrose for lunch. I would greatly appreciate anyones input. MGM seems limited foodwise...so we will only be planning one meal there.

The Brown Derby rocks!! The Cobb salad is fabulous. Mama Melrose is just ok. I vote for Brown Derby, it will feel like you have been transported to Hollywood.

Thanks for the info...has anyonw tried any of the other deserts??

Like any question like this it all depends on what you like to eat and what you want to spend. I suggest you check the menus online then decide.

Mama Melrose is Italian. If that appeals to you then you may choose it.

If price is a factor - Brown Derby is more expensive (and 2 TS credits on the dining plan).

I like them both.

Brown Derby is not only the best restaurant in all of MGM, it's also one of the best restaurants in any of the parks. The ambience is great, the service was top-shelf when I went, and the food was outstanding. The Cobb Salad is a can't-miss. I had a filet mignon there, IIRC, and while it wasn't as good as CA Grill's, it was still a cut above the average. We did the fantasmic package, which was great.

We are in the minority here. We did not like Brown Derby at all when we dined there five years ago. We had terrible service (and there were only three other tables occupied at the time) and the food was not good at all. We, however, have always enjoyed our meals at Mama Melrose.

I live 30 minutes away from Hollywood - I have all the Hollywood I need! I made a dinner ADR for Mama's - I'm an Italian food nut and I've heard this is pretty much the only decent place to get Italian food at WDW....

If you are looking for great italian...MM is not the choice. Two words: "Tutto Italia". Its a little pricey OOP, but only one TS credit! :thumbsup2 IMHO, this is the way to go. I would choose Brown Derby or 50s prime time for a good MGM meal.

So Tutto is better than Mama's.....wow okay....

We're planning on spending out first afternoon and evening at DSM, so I figured eat at Mama's.....

What time of the year are you going? While Brown Derby is leaps and bounds better, I would not want to eat a huge lunch there in the summer. I would stick with the Cobb salad. You'd even be able to get away with splitting it.

I am bummed out after reading all of this. My family is going to be at OKW for 10 days in April and we have ADRs for MM one night for dinner. The ADRs are for 10 of us so it is too late to find anything else. I am crossing my fingers that MM pulls through here and we all have a nice Italian dinner.

Does anyone have any more nice things to say about MM?

I've never eaten at Mama Rosa's but we're thinking of doing the Fantasmic Package in Dec. I just don't see how you can screw up pasta. From those who have eaten there and disliked it, please tell why.

My DH and I have eaten there the last three times we've been to Disney. We have always had wonderful service and our food was better than average. My DH enjoyed the chicken parmesan and I really liked the Four-Cheese Flatbread pizza. Everyone has differing opinions. We didn't like Derby...and my DH hated the grapefruit cake. It is best to try each place yourself and make your own judgment.

We've been to Mama Melrose's twice for the Fantasmic package and both times we liked our meal. DH and I had had pasta dishes and we liked them. DD liked hers too, though I don't remember what she had. She did have an appetizer of Minestrone soup as one of her choices, and she liked it. When you get the Fantasmic package, you get to choose an appy, an entree and a dessert for a fixed price. When we went last October the cost was something like $34.00 pp for adults. There were only a few appy's and desserts to choose from, but there were a full compliment of entrees. Is it gourmet Italian food, no. Was it good and enjoyable, absolutely.I say give it a whirl.
