Brown Derby - package or no?

I’m debating between Brown Derby and 50s for my solo September trip. 50s feels like it might be more fun with other people.

If I did the Brown Derby dining package, do I have to order from a smaller menu? Also, is it worth it to forego an AP discount? Especially if I want to tack on an appetizer.

I guess "worth it" depends on what you want for F!. It's pretty easy to get a 4th FP for F! so a dining package isn't completely necessary. The FP section is right next to the dining section. We got to the theater about 45 min before the show on a moderate crowd level day, and we were literally right across the aisle from dining package people, almost in the center. So for me, it would not be worth the cost if what I wanted to eat would be covered by another discount and be cheaper. Do the math.

ETA: You may also want to look at the Derby Lounge menu. Sitting outside and enjoying dinner COULD be fun if it's not the middle of summer.

Can you still order a full size slice of grapefruit cake, or is it only available as part of the mini trio?

I’m not sure if it would be worth it, looking at the math. And my previous ease getting a fourth FP for Fantasmic.

And I had thought about the lounge. I missed eating there in December. Since I’ll be there in September, I’m concerned it’ll be too hot for me to eat outside.

If you want to eat at the Brown Derby, I suggest trying the Dining with an Imagineer experience. It's a bit pricey ($75-85 per person + tax and gratuity) but it's in an intimate setting (no more than 12 other people) and you get to ask the Imagineer all sorts of questions. Oh, and no, fantasmic ticket

We have done it both ways. The dining package is off the same menu. As others have said, the FP section is right next to the dining section. Both tend to fill quickly, so you often still have to get there early to get a better seat, although you can see from any seat.

I've eaten at the lounge twice and both times had DEPLORABLE service. Spoke to a manager to no avail, so I won't be back.

_I_ wouldn't pay for F! dining package...YMMV...

I don’t think I’ll get the package if I went to Derby. I’ve seen Fantasmic numerous times and had good success getting a seat without a problem.

And I’m leaning towards going to Derby over 50s this trip. Not positive though!

On the BD FDP you can only get the mini dessert trio. That’s the only thing I don’t like about it.

Interesting. If you pay out of pocket, can you still order the full sized grapefruit cake? I don't see it listed on the menu other than as part of the dessert trio.

I didn’t realize they only serve dessert trios. Interesting. The BD FDP is preset, meaning we don’t get to choose from any 3.

We will be there next week, so I’ll try to come back with an update.

I just wanted to report that they do serve full slices of the grapefruit cake. It is not on the menu so you will have to ask for it.
