Brown Derby or Mama Melrose???

Please help me decide? It will be me, dh and ds6! We are doing Sci Fi our first day at DS for ds. The second day, we would like something more for us! Which one is best???

i would select brown derby. however, you did not say when you are going. BD is closed for rehab in september. therefore, if that is when you all are going, then..........

We love them both but BD is very upscale and not as kid friendly(although kids are there all the time). We have only taken DS(13) to Mama Melrose. It has great choices and fun appetizers. We have always had good service and food. Twice we ate there for Fantasmic pkge.

Can anyone explain the Fantasmic Brown Derby special. I know that it is $35 ish. What is included? Suppose my bill is under $35 do I still pay that or what if it over for that matter. I am just a little cofused.

Doodlebug939--look under the main Fantasmic dinner package post(one of the first ones on the Theme Park section I think). It has full explanation and links. Includes appetizer, entree, and dessert and I don't think anything with all these is under 35$.That said I'm pretty sure this is fixed price regardless of what you eat, so if you don't eat alot might want to choose a cheaper restaurant or don't do package. I'm trying to decide if I should do Mama Melrose's with 2 kids. Their menu looks great but I don't like that Adults get a limited menu. Can anyone comment on choices and are upgrades available if I want something else?

Not to put a damper on your choices, but I have to say we once loved the Brown Derby and made it a point to eat there each trip untill 3 years ago. This is only my opinion but we found the food no longer met the standard we were use to and service was just horrible. Thus, we have not returned. I can''t comment on Mama Melrose, since we've never eaten there.

I hate when people respond to one of these "which-one-between-these-two-choices-would-you-pick" questions when they've only eaten at one of the places....yet here I am doing it!!
Have not been to Brown Derby, but we make a point to hit Mama Melrose each trip. We really love the atmosphere. As I've said here before, it's not a "Disney-soaked" atmosphere inside. It's a nice, comfortable "normal-looking" restaurant...a nice little escape from Mickey and Minnie, while still being in the middle of the park. So you eat an enjoyable meal and then step back into the world of WDW!
We really love it.

Both are great!

Mama Melrose's is more casual and homey.

Brown Derby is very fancy (even if people are wearing shorts). ON our first visit a woman (a guest) was singing to the piano player's playing. It was very "magical" and I can never eat there w/o remembering that.

We like both very much but if I had to pick the better of the 2 it would be BD. It is a more upscale restaurant with better food but also has higher prices. At Mama's we love the flatbreads, the fried calamari and the sangeria, at BD we love the filet, tuna, grouper and cobb salad. Enjoy!
