DH and I are starting to plan our trip to the world and have decided that this time, for sure, we're going to try places we haven't been to before. Please note that we make this statement every trip... sometimes it works, other times not.

Anyway, we were thinking about trying the Brown Derby for lunch or dinner. Would appreciate hearing your experiences there... thanks

I love the Brown Derby! I have to eat there everytime I go to WDW. I usually eat dinner there. Last October I had Stone Ground Mustard-Crusted Rack of Lamb...hmmm I get hungry just thinking of that it was delightful! I also took a picture of it and a pic of the Roasted Pork Tenderloin my mother had. If you are looking to try something new I would reccomend it...I was apprehensive a few years ago to try it, but we did the Fantasmic Dinner Deal (before it was a package) and I fell in love with the place. I have had great service each time and the resteraunt has nice big booths and the carchitures (sp?) on the wall are fun to look at.

First, go to www.allearsnet.com and check out the offerings. DW and I went to Brown Derby every time we went to WDW, which was, and still is, a couple of times a month. We loved the place, but the last time we went, which was about a year ago, we had a really bad experience with a waiter, which is really unusual at WDW restaurants. The gentlemen had almost a totally undistingishable accent, which made things very difficult for us. And coincidentaley, at that very visit, both our dishes were very bad. Up until that day, we LOVED the place. I guess maybe we were starting to get bored with this eatery, and the waiter was the straw that broke the camels back for us. We will most likely go back again, possibly in February some time and give it another shot.
Having said all of that, I think you should try it if you never have before. I'm sure you will enjoy. Go for the lunch menu, as it is less expensive. Also, if you can, eat outside, it's one of the better restaurants for doing so. You can people watch, but the people are far enough away from your table so you won't have anyone looking at what you are eating.

It is good. But there are better.
Somehow I would be able to choke down a meal there though. ;)

The past couple of times I have eaten there have been just okay for me. There are other places (outside Disney) that have much better food for the same or lower price, in my opinion.

we love the derby! of course the signature salad~cobb salad~is a favorite. and the grapefruit cake is excellent. go and enjoy! :teleport: :earboy2:

Thanks everyone ... I have my eye on that grapefruit cake...

mbcary - what restaurants outside of Disney would you recommend? We'll have a car so it won't be a problem. Thanks

Scooter,
I was speaking in general terms. When I go to the World I don't go outside. I meant that any of the local steakhouses are better than what I had last time at the Brown Derby. I don't remember the service being very good either. It just seemed like a lot of money for a so-so meal. You may love it!

Best meal ever had at the World. We split an app, Cobb salad and entree and it was a TON of food. The character interaction was hysterical too.

We love the lamb chops but I am not to sure if it is on the lunch menu! We are going to dine there in 3 weeks just for the lamb chops. Plus we haven't tried the grapefruit cake yet! :cool1:

We ate dinner there for the first time in September and we loved it. I had the seared tuna, DH had a filet or lamb...I forget. Anyways, we will certainly eat there again. Give it a shot!

See you there drumflower. DW & I are having dinner at the Derby on Feb. 8th. We ate there on a previous trip & loved it! Looking forward to the Cobb Salad.

Went on the Fantasmic package--AWESOME!! Great food, great service, and great atmosphere!! I had the Grouper and it was to die for. DD loved the Mickey Chicken Noodle Soup, and DH had the Filet and loved it!! Go and enjoy!

Oh darn, we are eating there on the 9th! I want to meet some disers so bad! lol

If you do decide to eat at the Brown Derby, be careful how you plan your dining for the week. We really like the BD, but made the mistake of going there for dinner the night after we had been to the California Grill. I had the filet at both restaurants. The filet at CG was awesome. The one at BD was good, but after CG not quite as good. The resort signature restaurants like Jiko, Flying Fish, Cali Grill, Citricos tend to be slightly better than the ones in the theme parks. Anyways, I love their Cobb Salad which is done the original way--finely chopped and mixed together.

(Mitros) You can people watch, but the people are far enough away from your table so you won't have anyone looking at what you are eating.
:magnify:  :rolleyes1

I usually find that I can get close enough to drool over what people eat at the BD.

YUM I love the Brown Derby~! The salads, the grapefruit cake, the key lime martinis! OMG the meals are excellent! Think about PS too...it's a busy and fun place!

The Brown Derby is actually one of the main reasons our family tries to visit WDW each year!

No one can duplicate the 'original Cobb Salad' as far as we're concerned. Also, the filet mignons and bearnaisse (sp?) sauce is the 'best' my DH has ever eaten, and he's a very 'picky' steak person. It's our most favorite restuarant ever! :D

I have learned NEVER to order a cobb salad anywhere else. I ordered on here in Texas a few years ago, thinking it would be finely chopped like at Brown Derby. I kid you not...I got 1/2 avocado. 1/4 head of lettuce, a cube of blue cheese, a slice of turkey, a whole hard boiled egg, all drizzled with dressing. I asked if the kitchen had made a mistake, the server said "No, this is the original recipe!" I told the server that was not satisfactory, and waited another 30 minutes while the kitchen begrudgingly cut up and tossed the salad. It was still chunky.
