Which one should we choose for our day at MGM for DINNER? I hear good and bad and need a concensus? THanks... :earsgirl:

That's tough! Sci-fi is great for the atmosphere, Kona's is good, but if I were choosing for the meal and atmosphere, Ohana's would be my choice. I can't wait til my next trip to Ohana's!

Kona Cafe is one of our favoriates. We're just back from a nine day trip and ate at Kona twice. Service is good; food is even better. Plan for a late dinner and catch the fireworks or water pageant from the Poly.

We just had a fabulous meal at Brown Derby. The food was excellent and our server (Joshua) was great!

I love Brown Derby. I was very disappointed in both food and service the last time we ate at Kona Cafe, so it has been on our "No" list for about a year.

Of your choices, I have only eaten at 'OHana, so I am probably not a good one to reply. That said, we loved 'OHana in October. We had a 7:20 ADR and we were seatd just before 8. We had a wonderful table near the window, and a great surprise was being able to watch both the Electric Water Pageant and Wishes while we ate. It was great.
We enjoyed the food a lot too, and there is lots of it. Our servers were warm, friendly and efficient. We were asked frequently if we wanted more of anything.
I will be going back to 'OHana in April.
Enjoy whichever you decide.

Well, I have eaten at all of them. My first choice would be Brown Derby. Went there last year for my birthday. Even my DS (age 8) said this was the best place we have ever eaten -- and my kids are not picky and we eat everywhere. Definitely fantastic! My second choice would be Kona. The food is incredible, nice atmosphere and just a wonderful experience. I have done Sci Fi for dinner and it really isn't in the same league with these others. If you are looking for burgers, etc., it is the place to go. Ohana's, unlike most posters, would be my last choice. While it is a neat place to eat, the food wasn't that great. The meat was dry and there is so much going on that we didn't really get to eat. Hope that this helps!

I agree I've not been to Kona and it's been a while since I was at brown derby.. I'd to sci fi for lunch if you don't have a lunch planned? Unless you were thinking prime time I'd take prime time over sci fi anytime. I do NOT like o'hana. the meat, as turnlisa said, was dry.. my 'cousin' didn't come back so I couldn't get more of the ONE meat I thought was "ok".. the appetizers were "ok".. some have changed this was in sept when I went... and to be honest.. we were on the isle and I got WACKED by coconuts and hula hoops enough times and hard enough to last me a lifetime. Not to mention we asked for a window seat for fireworks.... so we chose not to sit right away.. we waited an extra hour and a half and the seat they sat us at was nowhere near the window. about 5 minutes later 2 window seats cleared. I don't think I'll ever go back, unfortunately.

I have eaten at all but sci fi, and I would choose Brown Derby hands down. Kona is good but atmosphere at Brown Derby wins! I can't say enough about how good our food was here, I had some sort of salmon on polenta to die for.....can't wait to do it again!

If you want to just eat a bite and return to MGM, I wouldn't waste time traveling to the Poly for Ohana and Kona, personally. Both are good - I just wouldn't spend all that time traveling.

For dinner, Sci Fi is not the best choice. We had a good meal but not a fantastic meal - their menu is just better at lunch.

Brown Derby, however, has been one of my very fave restaurants at WDW. Fantastic food!

I'd absolutely choose the Brown Derby. It's become one of our favorites over the years...and that's after 20 plus trips and sampling a lot of WDW restaurants! ::MinnieMo

I would agree with Aimeedyan about the traveling to the Poly for your MGM day. If you are staying at the Poly, and are heading back at the end of your MGM day, thats one thing. But, to plan your day at MGM, only to have to leave to eat at a resort rest. farther away.... I wouldn't want to do that. I'd stick with one of the MGM restaurants if that is where you will be. Have Fun.

Traveling back to the Poly for dinner would be time-consuming from MGM. If you were planning to spend the day at MGM then go to dinner and then return to MGM for the evening, you would be best served by eating in the park. My choice would be Brown Derby. If you really did want to leave and then return, you could go to one of the restaurants on the Boardwalk or in the Swan or Dolphin. These are a short boat ride -- or you can walk -- from MGM.

Id vote for Ohana. That was our fave meal at WDW ever. I would definately go there.

Brown Derby- how about the Fantasmic Dinner Package?-great food and nice not having to wait in line for Fantasmic :wizard:
Ohana for atmosphere (ask for a table where you can see the castle) and good food if you are big meat eaters
Sci Fi for kids..fun atmosphere, food is so so :earsboy: :earsgirl:
Kona has good food but regular atmosphere

I agree with the people advising against going all the way to the Polynesian for dinner, especially if you plan to return to MGM for the evening (if dinner is at the end of your park day, though, I recommend Kona - specifically the filet :))
As well, I agree with Brown Derby for your dining choice. If you really, really feel you must leave the park for dinner, I'd take the boat over to either the Boardwalk area or Epcot. PLENTY of dining choices!

Brown Derby hands down. We stayed at the Poly on our last trip and, while we loved Kona, particularly for breakfast, if you are planning on staying at MGM until the end of Fantasmic, you probably wouldn't get to the Poly until after 9 p.m. at the earliest. The Brown Derby was EXCELLENT.
