Brown bread in a can....

I used to eat that when I was a kid....I haven't had it in a very long time!!
I remember liking it but then again, I used to like SPAM as a kid too!!

We still have it 4 or 5 times a winter with hot dogs and home made baked beans.
Just open the can, slice it, and we put it on a splatter shield right over the hot dogs, so the bread steams and gets nice and warm.
This is a winter tradition for us because its stick to your ribs good food.

The one that you buy in the can is ready to eat. But, you can bake bread in a can.

I've heard of the bread you bake in a can or jar, but I was judging by the picture in the first post, and that's the pre-cooked one. I wonder what funky stuff would happen to it if you tried cooking it again  I also thought that for the most part, the stuff you bake in a can or canning jar was something you make at home from scratch- my friend makes them to send to her DH in Iraq

Yep, beans, weenies and brown bread...a NE staple when I was a kid on Saturday nights....I prefer to warm brown bread....before the age of microwaves, mom would wrap it in foil and put it in the oven to warm...now you can nuke it for a bit....haven't had it in ages, probably loaded with sugar, but I do like it. I think there was another brand besides B&M also

Is it still in stores? I havent seen this in yrs. I remember my mom getting it and serving the brown bread with beans. It was very moist and tasty.

That was a weekly meal growing up. Beans, brown bread in a can, hot dogs and cole slaw. It is really good!

LOL at this description I found of it:

"Wholesome or not, the stuff is strange. The smooth brown cylinder that emerges from the can could easily be rolled down hills at one's enemies. It's hard to keep on a plate unless you let it sit vertically, at which point the bread looks like a sinister wizard's tower, glowering with malicious intent."
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

But did you ever eat the brown bread in a can WITH spam:confused3 :rotfl:

Another New Englander who ate this every Saturday night during the cold months with beans, franks, and cole slaw.

Brown bread, made with loads of sweet molasses, with butter melted into it, Nice thick hearty homemade beans and hot dogs, I think I know what we'll be having Saturday night.

Now I love me some SPAM. Nice and fried up, put on bread w/ a little mustard. Yum!

I bought the same can pictured in the OP. I baked it (maybe heated it?) in foil according to the directions on the can.

the maker of it made me laugh... take out the & part LOL! Umm yuck!
And I'm pretty sure they make molasses too. :scared: :rotfl:

I don't think you're supposed to bake it
Wait, so you don't bake it? I was thinking it was like the refriderated bread dough. But just realized it's not refriderated, so yuck. I find this so very strange, I might have to buy it. Note: I may not eat it, but I want to see what it looks like. :lmao:

Must be a New England thing, I love Brown Bread. My Mom and Grandmother used to make homemade (but baked in a can) when I was kid. The stuff from the store isn't as good but still yummy!!

It's already baked. You can wrap it in some foil and stick it in the oven for five minutes to warm it up, but if you actually stuck it in a pan and baked it for 40 minutes you'd dry it out and ruin it.
