DH and I are taking our two kids (in their 20s) to New Orleans for Christmas. It’ll be our first time there. We will be arriving late on Christmas Eve (too late for the bon fires on the levee, Reveillon dinners or midnight Mass). Our hotel is in the French Quarter. Our Christmas Day plan is to attend Mass at 11:00 at St Louis Cathedral and then have an early dinner. I’ve googled which restaurants are open on Christmas Day and have narrowed it down to these 3:
Broussard’s
Tujaque’s
Restaurant R’evolution

For those in the know, which one would you choose?

Any other must dos over the Christmas holidays?

Tujaques and Broussards both specialize in Creole cuisine, though Tujaques is by far the more established place; opened just after the Civil War. (Some people will tell you that that shows, that they hew too closely to tradition. Among other things, they always have a multi-course prix-fixe that includes the really traditional classics like Turtle Soup.) It's been a while since I've been back to New Orleans, but of the two, I tend to prefer Broussards, because I prefer to mix up old & new sometimes.

I don't know R'evolution, but it's one of John Folse's projects, which means that the cuisine will have some unusual twists (usually brilliant ones, but he likes to be quite creative with ingredients, though he is very big on sourcing them locally whenever possible.) His partner in this venture, Rick Tramonto, seems to be weaving in an Italian influence as well. Look at the menu and see if you think the food appeals.

Tujaques has a completely fixed menu for Christmas Day; they say nothing else will be available:

I tried to post a link to the menu, but DIS decided it was either spam or inappropriate. You can go to their website to see if that is okay. It is $60/pp

We ended up with a 3:00 reservation at Tujaque’s. Broussard’s looked good too and had openings when I originally checked. But when I finally made reservations, none were available at Broussard’s, and it’s no longer on any of the “Open on Christmas Day” lists.

We are looking forward to it! Thanks everyone!
