Bought the brother all in one printer mfc and of coarse like everthing we own it breaks after the warranty runs out. Here is my problem i went to change the ink like I have done a million time's and have used generic one's with no problem's before. But for some reason this time it will not register that it was installed keep getting a error mesage saying ( ink empty) tried about 10 times.Even went and bought the brothers ink and the same thing happened.Sine I have no idea what's going on hopefully some one can explain this to me maybe its a simple fix.
The only color i changed was the cyan
Thanks:confused3

Generic ink cartridges can do that-they can ruin your printer. I had that happen to our nice Dell printer a couple months ago. Also, most printers now come with a chip that reads a chip in the printer cartridge and if they don't match the printer won't work.

Try cleaning the electrical contacts on all of the cartridges and in the printer with a pencil eraser. It sounds like the printer does not know that one (or more) of the cartridges is there.

We get machine with problems like yours all the time at work, especially now that a Cartridge World just opened up down the street :lmao:

Defiantly sounds like the printer isn't recognizing the new cartridge, could have been caused by the generic cartridges (yes, this does happen and it happens more often than any ink refiller or generic cartridge manufacturer will ever let on to) or it could just be a problem with the machine itself.

A few things I can recommend - check and clean the contacts where the cartridges actually sit in the printer but be very careful, a little rubbing alcohol on a Qtip should do the trick. Unplug the printer over night and/or look up how to do a 'cold reset' (just google cold reset and the model number of your printer), often enough just resetting the printer will take care of problems like these.

If all else fails call for service, do you have an office equipment repair company near you? Some places will do free estimates but not many in our industry do anymore. As a fair warning, Brother parts are expensive :scared1: Brother products work fine until something goes wrong but as soon as you need service (especially if it needs parts) it's time to buy something new
