I am 19 years old and today I decided to go to the Bronx Zoo. I am so familiar with Aminal Kingdom that the whole time I kept thinking of comparrisons and differantials. You dont relize how nice Disney really works on their park with the animals and how they make the park inside and out perfect. Just going around the Bronx Zoo seemed confusing. It was all spread out with each exibit looking like the next. We kept turning and turning into wrong roads trying to find out destination. Animal Kingdom just seemed like the better atmosphere. Every little town (Africa, Dino Land etc) has a differant look and feel. You could find your way back from start to finish, while never worrying about where you were going. It always seems in Animal Kingdom there are no worries at all.

So we decided to go on the monorail that was like the safari ride in AK but in monorail form. All the animals were caged by rusted metal cages, to ugly looking worn out wood. The animals looked uncomphtorable in small spaces. During the whole ride you could hear cars zooming by interupting your feel as if you were really in the jungle. In AK you felt as if you were really in Africa. Fences were unseeable by the human eye. All around you is freedom to see all animals living together as one. Not a small fence around 3 deer. I used to think AK was my most unliked park untill I really saw for myself how good it is. When I go in October the first Park I will go to is AK.

I'm a zookeeper at a small zoo, I LOVE visiting other zoos and Animal Kingdom is without question my favorite. I haven't been to the Bronx Zoo since I was a kid so I don't remember very much of it. Animal Kingdom has the nicest, most amazing animal exhibits I've ever seen. The safari is incredible and the animal trails are beautiful. I love taking the train to Rafiki's (um, can't remember rest of name) so I can see all the beautiful animal barns and sheds. It's also fun to see the world's cleanest petting zoo. I love Animal Kingdom!!!!!!

I live like 5 minutes from Miami's Metrozoo, which I've been to I think maybe 5 times ever and like once in the last 15 years, so I'm not a big zoo guy.I look at AK as a DISNEY park with rides and attractions and not really a zoo, same thing for Busch Gardens Tampa, to me these are theme parks, so I wouldn't compare normal zoo's to major theme parks with animals, they're just different things. The Metrozoo is pretty nice and all, the animals aren't kept in cages, they're kept in little islands with moats around them. But honestly I can't be there more than 2 hrs, the animals are usually in a shaded corner barely visible usually due to the usual heat, maybe if they started a program like be a zookeeper for the day, to be able to be right next to the animals, zoo's would do more for me.I like animals but I need more excitement from them.

We are WCS members, and we go to the Bronx Zoo often. In fact we were just there Wednesday :sunny:
The Bronx Zoo is an older zoo and needs many improvements but its come along alot in the past years. The Congo exibit is superb as is butterfly garden and bug carousel. It's true there are some spots where you can hear a bit of traffic but to me the park is a very relaxing oasis in the middle of the crazy Bronx!
That being said, my sister and I went to the zoo a while back and at the end of the day we were like- were's the parade? Where's the fireworks? LOL!!
If you compare any kind of amusement park to Disney you will always be disapointed so its best to just enjoy them for what they are IMO. :goodvibes

Perhaps if the Bronx Zoo could get away with charging the prices that Disney charges the facilities would be nicer. The Bronx Zoo is what it is...a zoo. Do you think that Disney would let people in for free on Wednesdays the way the Bronx Zoo does?? Highly unlikely. AK is not a zoo, it is a theme park and therefore you can not compare the two.

I agree with Shellery.

We are members of the Bronx Zoo, and the amount of stuff they provide for the cost is amazing.

And to be honest I think much better done than Animal Kingdom.

The Congo, Butterfly Pavilion, Jungle World, Are all better than anything I see at Animal Kingdom. There are no rides per say, but it is a zoo.

Even the smaller exhibits like the Mouse house I think is better than anything I have ever seen at Disney.

The open areas however are more vast and it harder to see animals because the Zoo does not reward the animals for staying in certain locations.

I'm sorry - but as much as I love Disney, if you want to see and learn about animals and their habitats, Bronx Zoo blows away Animal Kingdom. BZ might not have parades, dinosaurs, Yeti, or carnival games, but it has some of the most amazing and informative animal exhibits you will see anywhere.

There's no place like Disney...... There's no place like Disney.....

Animal Kingdom is not a zoo first of all, so there's really no comparison.

I've been to the Bronx Zoo many times and I find it dirty. They could at least clean the cages more often...The animals would definitely be happier at AK and that's all that matters to me.

I went to Mystic Aquarium here in CT back in April, and even that doesn't compare to The Living Seas. It was so....boring! The local zoo can be walked through in about 2 hours...AK is the way to go! :thumbsup2

I don't think you can compare either. We haven't been to the Dallas or Ft. Worth zoos yet, so I can't compare them to AK, but the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago is incredible. It has way, way, way MORE animals than AK. I think the grounds at AK are gorgeous, and the buildings and stuff are really neat, but to see a lot of animals, learn about them, and get closer to them, a really nice zoo beats AK IMO!! I love AK, but it is an amusement park, not a zoo!

Im not comparing the rides and such Im talking mainly the aspect of the way the animals are kept and the look of the place. It cost us 50 dollars for the two of us plus 8 dollars worth of parking for a 3 hours journy into Bronx Zoo. It is also in the middle of New York so its not like customers are not there. Im just saying the way the Bronx Zoo compares to the exibits at Animal Kingdom are no where in comparison. I think the Bronx Zoo is even larger in diameter then Animal Kingdom. Disney is superb on the way they made their park and to me there is no other zoo like it. Sure they say it isnt a zoo, thats what they say. But theres no other place like AK.

I was just at the bronx zoo on saturday and i hadnt been there for like 8 years or something like that. It really is a great zoo. I love to just observe the animals and read all the info on them. The differenece i find about AK and The Bronx Zoo, is that first off one is a zoo and the other is a theme park and secondly that the bronx zoo is about conservation and information wereas the AK is about entertainment with a bit of learning thrown in. I love The Animal Kingdom it is probably my favorite park of the 4, but nothing beats at least to me being able to just watch the animals. And at the bronx zoo you get a better opportunity for that. :goodvibes . P.S I also find it a bit interrupting to see and hear the cars go by on the monorail, and also to see right on the other side of the fence apartment buildings. I guess its just a part of living in the big apple though for me :)

Donald you are correct. Best part about the Bronx zoo is it brings you a bit out of the city. The closest thing to animals I see are dogs, cats, and squirrels haha.
