My toe has been hurting progressively over the last few weeks. Earlier this week, it became near unbearable to walk. Turns out I had broken my toe. Hopefully it is feeling better by Monday, but I am just not super excited to do that much walking. And I don't feel I can justify using a wheelchair for a toe.
Anybody have any tips on how to keep the pain down?

I went in April with a broken toe. I wore a boot that elevated the to part of the foot so it didn't bend.

I had a broken toe several years ago. My mother used to be a nurse and she had me tape the broken one to the adjoining one. Helped a lot.

Depending on which toe it is...taping it to the neighbor toe helps a lot, or wearing a boot can help (if it’s the big toe especially). Try to take breaks and elevate it too...good luck!!

I broke my toe about a week before one of our trips. The only shoes I could wear were my bright yellow crocs that I use for gardening! :scared: It turned out that I was able to manage walking on it, icing during a midday break, as long as I only wore my crocs. My Dr. also suggested buddy taping the toe, but it didn't end up helping in my case. I wish you luck on your trip!

Just want to edit to add if you have pain there is no shame in renting a scooter or wheelchair. It is your trip and you deserve to make the most of it. Pain is pain...even if it is a small body part!

Old dancer with a lot of broken toes in her history...agree with taping your toe. Put a bit of cotton in between - not in a wad, spread it out over the length of the toes to help cushion before you tape them. It doesn't take much, but makes it more comfortable for all day wear.

I’m so sorry! I’m a klutz and have had a few broken toes. Did you see a podiatrist? There’s a big difference between urgent care and an expert. If it’s not getting better it could be a bad break or a fracture. My last broken toe was in May and it started bothering me last week at Disneyland because it’s still not fully healed. I fractured this one so it’s not healing as well or as quickly as the ones I’ve broken before. I did this right before a trip to Hawaii and was very bummed. My podiatrist recommended not going on hikes or long walks. He gave me the ugly shoe to wear but conceded I could wear crocs on the beach. You want a firm sole. Definitely buddy tape it and do put something inbetween. The one I fractured he actually had me tape up my whole foot and sleep that way.

Is there any way you can reschedule? Disneyland is a lot of walking under the best of circumstances. You could end up miserable and make it worse and be suffering upon your return home.

If you do go try to elevate it as much as possible when you can. Good luck!

I broke my small toe one month before our trip. I taped it to the toe beside it every day and wore Birkenstocks. The only shoes I could find that did not hurt were the Birkenstocks with the part that you stick you big toe in. The style is Mayari. Your break may be very different from mine though. Good luck :(

I broke my toe the day before we went to WDW (this was several years ago). After day 1, I did rent a wheelchair. I do think it was totally worth the pain it saved that I would have experienced by walking all day. I will say that I did use it to go through the parks; however, I did not use the wheelchair to gain special entrance to rides and shows. I was fine to stand in lines for a period of time.

THIS. My daughter broke a toe in 2005. She went to ER and was told "Just tape it..." After 3 more days and it not improving, I insisted she go to her podiatrist. We got the xrays from ER and went to see the doc. He looked at the xray and said "See this? That is a spiral fracture." It was quite serious. She had to go non-weight bearing. If you still have trouble putting weight on it after a week, see an ortho or podiatrist.

Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a wheelchair for a broken toe. Pressure is applied to the toe on your feet, which is a pertinent appendage when you're basically standing and walking on it. Buddy tape it for now, walk around in comfy, wider-width shoes, and see how you feel when the day comes. If it's still hurting or hurts even worse, get the chair. It's a broken bone for goodness sake and you should have fun at Disneyland!

I'm so sorry! I broke my toe (not even a complete fracture, just a "line" on the x-ray) several months ago, and it was excruciating! There's no way I would have attempted Disneyland without some way to keep off it mostly. I could also only wear Crocs, but only one pair of Crocs flip flops for like 6 weeks. The different boots I tried still put pressure on it and it hurt like crazy! I used crutches for the first two weeks, and then thankfully someone lent us a knee scooter after that. I would probably try to rent a ECV or whatever or a chair if I had other adults that didn't mind pushing me for a trip like that though. Even the knee scooter would have gotten very hard to be on for a big day like that. A trip to the mall about did me in, especially while I was getting used to using it. What you might not be considering is how your other muscles are having to compensate for the weird way you're moving, and trying to add support to that part you're not using. The muscle strain and cramping when I was trying to walk on it too much got kind of awful that first week or two.
