If it's just bruised very badly, it should feel better in 2-3 weeks. A break is going to be more like 6-8. Sometimes it's nice to know what you're dealing with. I bruised mine twice ... both times turning a horrible dark purple shade. The first time I got an xray - no break. It hurt for 2 weeks and then all of a sudden it got better fairly quickly. The 2nd time I did it, I didn't get it checked out, and it went away in about the same time frame.

I would go, if you can afford it. The toe next to my pinky toe was broken, by a high school boy stomping on it accidentally, when I was reffing basketball. I didn't even realize it was broken, until it was too late. It was black & swelled, but I thought it would heal in time. (In my defense, I grew up playing sports & was used to bruises & swelling.) When I went to a doctor for a different reason, he said it had been broken & heeled crooked. To fix it he would need to re-break it. I chose not to do that, because I can be a wimp, when it comes to anticipated pain. :o Bad choice on my part. I have to wear wide shoes now or I get painful hot spots on that toe, because it sticks up higher than my other toes. I also have arthritis, which targets injuries & causes pain there. Taping it may have worked, but I didn't realize it was broken in time. I wish I would have gone to a doctor, when I noticed it was black & swelling or at least had the doctor break & reset it.
