Broken Foot in WDW!

I broke my auxillary navicular (it's an extra bone in my foot right by the arch) in May and was put in a walking cast in June. I was at the doctor's yesterday and she said it was still fractured. Right now, I am to use an ankle brace most of the day and the walking cast when it becomes painful.
Now I am getting nervous. I planned our WDW/DCL trip for the latest I could before school starts but since my foot is still sore, I'm worried it's not going to be up to all the walking.
The doctor told me to take my walking cast to wear around the resort when I'm tired. And I have an ankle supoort I have to get used to for walking in the parks.
Any advice on what type of shoe I can used with the brace?
And any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

You're not going to like this but my advice is to rent an ECV. Been there done that with an ankle fracture(tib/fib compound with plate and pins to repair). The heat and humidity plus the extra walking and standing that is Disney just tend to increase the pain and especially the swelling. You may be fine after the first day but when you get up the next day you may not even recognize your foot and it will put a damper on your enjoyment of the rest of your trip.
Rent an ECV, bring pain meds(otc and script if you have them) take a few soft ice packs to put around your ankle/foot at the end of the day (when you elevate your feet above your heart)

Do whatever you need to to make sure YOU have a great vacation(in other words don't worry what others may think of you in an ECV you won't see them again anyway)

First & foremost, OUCH! You're unfortunately talking to an EXPERT on that particular break. I broke mine, once in each foot, 6 months apart!

Next, I wholeheartedly endorse getting a ECV. For me, I broke mine when I was still a teen (I can't tell you how long ago that was, I don't want to even think about it!), spent 6 weeks in a half cast (semi-weight bearing) for the first one. For the 2nd, I kept falling while on the crutches (combo of being a klutz & having some of the kids at school "helping" me to fall a few times), managed to kill off 1/2 the nerves in my leg & have even more "fun" from that (we're talking YEARS of recovery).

Why do I say get the ECV? VERY easy answer. If you can remember being back in school with tons of kids in the narrow hallways between classes, just imagine sharing the same walkway with 50,000 of your closest friends, with only slightly wider "hallways". That's Disney at times. You do NOT need to replicate my falling down, believe me!

ECV's will spare your feet from being severely overstressed, too, since you're going to walk for more miles than you normally ever would. Don't stress the (hopefully freshly knitted back together) bones, try to be gentle to them so they COMPLETELY set SOLIDLY. Your feet will DEFINITELY thank you!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, here or via PM. Remember, this is your VACATION, you're there to ENJOY yourself, not be in pain! The only "allowable" pain is the one you feel when it's time to go!

Enjoy the Magic!

Ideally a fractured bone should heal in about 6 - 8 weeks unless there are other medical issues involved (ie: diabetes or circulatory problems). Ask your MD for a referral to an ankle/foot specialist rehab and you may also need a customized shoe for a short time (6 months or less).
