One of the kids...OK, I lied...*I* put a DVD in the DVD player when there was already one in there  and now the DVD player doesn't work. Is there a quick fix, or did I really screw up? :( I'm in desperate need of a Pirates fix and it's our only DVD player!

So is the 2 dvd's still in the player or are they both stuck in there? Just curious.....I do not repair electronics but if the dvd's are stuck in the player maybe you just have to figure out how to remove them...

Nope, not stuck. It's just that now, when we put a DVD in it, it won't play...just shuts off. It's like it doesn't know there's a DVD in there.

Um, you probably moved the sensors. When you jammed 2 in there :p

I would say, just a sensor position issue, but unless you know where it is and where it is SUPPOSED to be, you are going to have to take it to someone who DOES know, or run to walmart and buy a cheap DVD player to tie you over.

Hhmmm...my 11 yr old DS said something like that to me before. Maybe I should let him try to fix it. LOL

I sent a question to Panasonic on their website...maybe they can help. Meanwhile, I want a new DVD player anyway...I need a backup for emergencies! ;) Not that DH will let me near it.

Well, for the most part, DVD players are lasered, sensors tell the lasers where to aim, if a laser if off, even by a hair, they won't pick up. So, it is most likely a sensor issue.

I vote for another DVD player hooked up to another TV, then your DH has no choice. :teeth:

Hi Mare! I can't help - just wanted to say hello. Tell "Just Dave" that I said to get you a new DVD player. You have to be able to watch the Pirate. pirate:
I have to have the same fix!!

Poohstyx

Before you take any drastic measures, turn the power off, unplug the unit, plug it back in, and power it up. It couldn't hurt:D

I recently fixed a DVD player for my SIL that did a very similar thing. Put a DVD and it didn't know it was there. I think the problem was that it sat for a long time and the main motor was a little sluggish. All I did was take it apart and while the player tried to spin up the DVD (it wouldn't even make one turn around) I gave it a little help and it would then spin normal and play the DVD. I had to do this about 5-10 times and then after that it would spin on it's own. I think it's still working because I haven't heard otherwise.

[disclaimer]This is NOT a recommendation for you to pop the hood on it unless you assume ALL risk. [/disclaimer]

But as cheap as DVD players are (under $50), I highly doubt you could get a service center to touch it for any less than that. If you can't get someone who's able to open it up and poke around, I would recommend tossing it and get a new one.
