Need help or suggestions please!!!

My suburban (the tow vehicle) is broke down. I took it to a dealer near by and they are telling me that it is the rear axle, they say it's toast and the parts are no longer available from GM to fix it. They are unable to locate an axle, and have basically told me I need to buy a new vehicle!
So here are my questions

1. Does anyone know of a place that would rent a truck one way that is capable of towing?
2. Can someone recommend a quality mechanic in the area (quickly losing faith in the dealer)
3. Anyone want a slight used keystone passport, as I am ready to make a deal.

Oh, the suburban is a 2005, 2wheel drive 1/2 ton if that matters

Parts should be readily available.. What dealer did you go too? There is a GMC dealer in Orlando just done the street from the Florida Mall and there is a Chevy dealer located in Kissimmee. Sorry but I haven't been to any local shops to recommend. I have ordered parts personally from the Chevy dealer in Kissimmee tho.

So sorry for your troubles.
I'd contact Chevrolet/GM directly for some help. :wizard:pixiedust:

Yeah, I wouldn't rely on that no parts...they know you're under the gun. What are your circumstances with time? Get on the horn to find a mechanic that will search for the part. If I still lived there, I could definitely recommend some friends, but most have moved away too. I'll make a few calls and pm you.

You could call the Car Care Center and see if they would recommend a place, if they don't do that work themselves. Our car needed a muffler and they referred us to a great place.

Chevy(GMC)has used the same rear axle for this vehicle since the 90s.this axle is available from almost any junkyard with warranty and still available from factory.I have used the dealer in Kiss. for work on two of the three Suburbans I have owned and am very satisfied with both cost and quality.

My husband is a certified GM mechanic....obviously on vacation he couldn't fix it lol, but he could come check it out and make sure it's really what they say it is ;)

1) One of my plants handled ALL of the GM van and pickup truck axles.
2) We even shipped axles directly to dealers for replacement.
3) I can tell you that the axle IS AVAILABLE through SPO (GM parts unit).
4) Call another dealer or repair shop.

NOTE: It is law that parts must be available for 7-years after the model year.
This is a popular axle, so new axles are available from about 1998 without a problem.
If the price is too steep, a junkyad axle works perfectly fine, as axles seldom are
the cause of junking a vehicle.

They're trying to rake him. It's up on the lift disassembled, making him feel there's no options.

1) Tell him to have the repair shop contact SPO.
2) Have hubby nearby to hear the conversation or see the email.
3) SPO should always have them in stock, then UPS overnight.
4) Best of luck to you.

TrustTheScupper: We did this for GM for many years. We stocked rear
axles in MANY configurations. We would get a call, and (by contract) we
had the axle on overnight shipment by 4:00pm the following day, although
we usually shipped it the same day.

Well I talked with the service rep today. They are trying to find a used salvaged axle.
I also contacted my local GM dealer at home, that parts guy assured me every single part for my truck is still available from gm so...
I contacted GM and explained it to them. They are going to contact the dealer on Monday, and we will get to the bottom of this. Hopefully it will be fixed correctly. It's a long drive home

that caught me as odd, but hopefully they will get it sorted out. It just sounds like the dealer wanted to sell you something new, not replace one of the most common axles used in GM products.

It's been a couple of days, so I hope you were able to get it all squared away by now. We also have a 2005 Suburban (4wd, not that it really matters LOL) and as previously stated, the parts are DEFINITELY available. I'm glad you didn't just take them for their word and looked into this!!! Good luck!!!:thumbsup2

Well we are still here...
Hopefully the part will be at the dealer tomorrow
The service manager has told me if we can get it there they will get it put in.
Praying.

Wow!

God bless you and your family for having to put up with this.

You're in my thoughts and prayers.
