Anyone live in NY City and know the best way to get show tickets? We are going to be visiting 11/25 and I was just curious. I'm sure most are filled up by now especially since this will be Thanksgiving weekend but just wanted to check if any were available. Thanks!

Also, if anyone knows of any good tours, etc to do. We are only coming in for the day.

I don't live there, but the past 2 shows we've gone to, I've bought tickets off of Ticketmaster and Broadway.com.

However, when you get into the city, in the theater district, there is a place you can get tickets for that day's shows at 1/2 price. I honestly don't know what kind of seats they offer, but I do know it's cash only.

I*think* this is the company

We recently saw Tarzan and Avenue Q (a completely adult, but extremely hysterical, show :thumbsup2 ) and both were great.

Good luck and enjoy!

TKTS is fabulous BUT it is ONLY for shows for THAT DAY. You cannot purchase tickets in advance. They are also are under construction in Times Sq...they have moved around the corner near the Marriott Marquis..there is a SIGN on the "original" TKTS Building telling you their "new" "temp" location.

A great web site is www.playbill.com ! It will have ALL the Broadway info you need. On the LEFT hand column, click on Broadway. It will give you a list of all the Broadway shows, their times, a synopsis of the show, costs, seating charts!!! :thumbsup2

Gotta love the BIG APPLE!! :goodvibes

tkts is a good resource, but probably not for the day-trip visitor. if there is a show your heart is set to see, and it is in demand... chances tickets will be at tkts are slim. the line at tkts is also very long. time you could use to be seeing the sights! :)

i have seen phantom twice and both times bought my tickets for a great deal on the website of the theater in which the play shows. in this case it would be the majestic.

if you have a group of 4 or more hit carmine's to eat. fabulous. delicious. and for a group the price can't be beat. though you must reserve ahead.

doing a little research on tripadvisor helped me plan a girlfriends trip without a hitch.

I use TKTS all the time for day trips into the city since I live in Connecticut. I usually have an idea of a few shows I want to see (and know might be available).
I just went in this Sunday and went to see Mama Mia - we got there at 11:10am and were done by 11:30am - the new location is much faster. We paid 59.50 a person(group of 5), and got front row mezzanine(center).
Not a bad deal, I have seen about 10 shows in the last few years this way, and have never had a bad seat.

That is awesome that tkts has worked well for you! :thumbsup2 Maybe for our autumn trip I will be brave enough to try it. Having several choices would definitely help. I was all about Phantom on our last 2 trips and did not want to be disappointed.

With the OP going T-giving week; and all that that holiday involves in NYC, I would be worried about availability. It would be awful to be disappointed.

Another great place to eat, though VERY pricy, is Sardi's. We ate there back in May and saw Jerry Stiller and his wife walk in and be seated. Very cool :)

In July when we went we ate at a really neat pizza place called John's Pizzaria. The restaurant used to be a church and was pretty cool. I don't remember the cost but the pizza was excellent.

Just a little more about John's Pizzeria. This is one of my favorite places to go--not just for pizza, but they also have excellent baked ziti. They are very reasonably priced by New York standards. I want to say it's on 45th (although it may be 46th) between 7th and 8th. Very good.

If you go to Playbill online and sign up for their free club, they do offer some discounts on shows.

If I get tickets in advance, I order them through Ticketmaster or Telecharge.

Since you are going Thanksgiving weekend, be prepared for wall to wall people in the Times Square area. That time of year, Times Square is just nuts. We could barely walk in Toys 'R' Us when we were there that time of year a while back!

Have fun :)

Very good pizza! :thumbsup2

Also, I agree with most people's opinion of TKTS, especially considering that it's Thanksgiving weekend. The few times I've tried it, they really didn't have anything I was interested in. Most shows available had been around for quite awhile. I think you'd be better off checking out Telecharge.com and getting something you really want, if it's even available for that weekend.
