Hi guys
We are finally at the end of our contract with A O hell and im confused as to where to go next!! :confused3
I would like a company that has good connection reliabilty and also need tech support as im a bit thick when thigs go wrong !!
Who do you guys reccomend ???? whats a definate avoid ???

I'm with Virgin Media, never had a problem.

I'm with sky and had no problems with them, actually left aol myself and joined sky. I think they are doing an offer at the moment for the first 6 months free :)

BT have good connections but lousy technical support. I'd move to sky like a shot if I could get their main type of connection but we are not in the right area (think in the sticks - lol). We do have their phone service and it is great.

We had loads of problems with Sky at the beginning. Their technical support was 'try switching it on and off again'. It was also a very expensive phone number and you could be 'on hold' for 30 mins or more. This was a couple of years ago, so things might have improved.

I stayed with them as I had read it was a nightmare to switch. I haven't had any problems since (touch wood) but they have introduced a new rule about usage. It is not unlimited (unless you pay more) and what they do is send you a warning email if you are getting close to your limit - if you exceed it, they automatically bump you up to the higher tariff. This is something to consider if you download a lot of stuff.

I'm with Virgin as well and have never had a problem with them, I would def recommend them :thumbsup2

We are with Talk Talk at home and at the shop, my parents are also with them.

The technical support has always been ok and the setup process with easy, with instructions in total idiot fashion so even I could do it! :)

We dont really download but we do have the laptop on all day "surfing" so would we need to be go on highest tariff?? Dont really understand all the jargon if im honest

Havge been with BT since broadband was made available (about ten years now) without any problems whatsoever. no dropouts, free phone calls, good transfer rates.

however, if you have the exchange fitted by O2, then look at that, fast and cheap

All day surfing would most likely not require the highest tariff. Things that would cause you to require the higher tariffs would be regular use of things like bbc iPlayer, youtube and other video services, looking at lots of large pictures (including sent to you by email) etc.

Just doing things like DIS, checking the news etc will not use that much internet relatively speaking and you would probably be ok on the lower ones.

We were with AOL for 8 years and changed to 02 a few months ago, it's so much faster in our area and is great we are very pleased

I'm with Virgin Media, never had a problem.

Same as, no bandwith limit but fair usage policy. I download a fair bit but they have never told me to pay extra. Also I have 10MB speed as they upgraded all there 2 MB speed customers to 10MB for no extra:thumbsup2

We have been with Virgin Media for 4 years now with no problems. Any problems that we have are easily solved and the customer service is spot on.

Hope that helps

Sky - i have never had any problems and only pay £5 a month.

Have been with Virgin for over nine years and never had a problem, we browse and download lots of films, music and software via a download station and it's v.fast and reliable:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I have Virgin at home 20MB service. Been with them years, apart from the odd outage due to people digging thru cables etc no problems with them.
At the shop I have Tiscali 8 MB, OK but I can tell difference between the 2 for speed (or maybe its just the PC at the shop is older)
For DMIL I got cheapest I could find plusnet, They had an offer on a couple of years ago with cashback (Rpoints or Quidco) cost next to nothing for the year. Their current offer is £5.99 a month, with a massive 10GB usage, free connection, a free wireless with £28 cashback. Ideal for her but depends what you want to do, for surfing any of these are OK, for downloading then faster connections are needed.

I know a couple of people who went with Sky but left with bad support and service but no company are 100% good for everyone.

Thanks all for the feedback!! My main worry is that if at the moment I pay Just £7.50 a month for unlimted broadband any company I look at doubles this easily adn I dont want to end up paying double for the same issues to still be there.
Im going to look into sky and virgin now !!!

BTW, if you are going to consider Virgin, we have found that we have been able to negotiate with them in the past :thumbsup2

If it's cable broadband you're looking for I'd recommend Virgin any day. Have been with them for the past 5 years with hardly any issues whatsoever. Technical support is also excellent.

If you're set up is ADSL I would strongly recommend Be Broadband. My DGF has this and has never experienced any issues with them and has lightening quick speeds at all times of the day and night.

Most importantly it all depends on what's available in your area and to find that out you wanna head over to samknows(dot)com (slash) broadband. You can enter your postcode and check out what providers are servicing your area. You can also get stats on the speed of each service so you know what you'll be getting from all of the ISP's in your area. There are a few other cool utilities you can get stats from here also.

Good luck :)
