This may be the wrong area for this post, but I recently got an email regarding a British Sweepstakes prize, asking me to contact a claims agent. Normally, I'd dismiss this sort of thing as garbage and delete it, but it intrigued me. So I called the BBB, and they said they had received a number of calls about this sort of scam. They said overseas sweepstakes were illegal, and had me call the secret service, at my expense. The SS said since it was overseas, there was little they could do about it, but definitely giving them any personal info puts you at risk for theft. I just thought I'd pass this along.

Is there an international BBB, or something like it?

According to my email, I've won the Spanish Lottery, Italian Lottery, Dutch Lottery.....

Just delete the email.

If you have to send money in advance then it is a fraud.

It is not a good idea to click blue links in strange email messages. You could cause rogue programs to be downloaded into your computer that do damage or send away your private information (including everything you type tomorrow or next week) or dial long distance numbers on your modem.
