Just back from a 7 day trip to Disneyland Paris. Flew with BA from Aberdeen to London Heathrow then out to CDG. Arrived at CDG Sunday night - no suitcases for all 7 in our party. Not too phased as I thought they would turn up next morning - how wrong was I:confused: Many hours and emails trying to get any sense from BA , 3 bags turned up and day 5 ,1 on day 6 and one on departure day. Two still missing in action.

As you can imagine DLP is not the best place to buy things and a whole day was wasted trying to get a few things to wear!!!!! Normally given the chance to replace my wardrobe would thrill me but the choice was very poor.

Anyway does anyone have any idea what compensation we will get. We have been told BA will reimburse us for any out of pocket expenses and will give us compensation. We feel the holiday was ruined so does anyone know what BA will pay out?

Can't offer you any help with compensation question.

One of my work colleagues arrived home from Orlando two weeks ago today. Bags took over a week to all arrive back.

Jackie, I am so sorry to hear about this. I can't think of anything much worse than lost luggage when you arrive. I always panic waiting at the conveyor belts in case our cases don't come through. I can imagine how bad it must have been when yours didn't turn up.

I found this quote on the BA website
Insurance and baggage liability limitations
Whilst we will make every attempt to ensure your baggage is handled with care, you should know that British Airways’ liability for loss, delay or damage to baggage is limited unless a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges paid.

The extent of airline liability is not based on the weight of the bags nor its value. British Airways does not accept liability for fragile, valuable, perishable articles or baggage which is packed in damaged or unsuitable containers.

Under the Conditions of Carriage we accept no liability for the loss of jewellery, other valuables and money contained in checked baggage. You are advised to keep valuables, important documents and money either on your person or in your hand baggage.

We strongly recommend that you obtain adequate travel insurance cover prior to your journey.

It sounds to me like your best bet might be to claim through your travel insurance?

That's crazy. Hope you get compensation

Really sorry to hear about this. It's just shocking how much BA have messed this up!

I hope you get proper compensation for this.

Florence: OMG, I would freak out if it took over a week to get my bags back! Did your friend get any compensation? Or even an apology or explanation?

BA lost my cousins luggage when she came back from the States on business a few weeks back, fortunately it turned up a few days later otherwise BA would have had to reimburse her over £2000 as she had her company laptop with her main luggage.

I hope you manage to get it sorted without anymore problems Jackie.

Actually, they wouldn't have had to. They might have done it as a good will gesture, but their terms.....

.....we accept no liability for the loss of jewellery, other valuables and money contained in checked baggage. You are advised to keep valuables, important documents and money either on your person or in your hand baggage....

.....clearly state that they won't be responsible for valuables which get lost. :confused3 :sad1:

Totally agree, valuables should not be put in hold luggage as anything could ahppen to them ie theft, damage and loss. If luggage is delayed the airline are only obliged to pay for the essential items not the whole contents of the case! As for loss then that is a matter for the travel insurance.

Claire ;)

Due to the problems at Heathrow terminal 4 BA have put a sum of money aside for compensating customers. The girl I spoke to at BA on Wednesday had said they would reimburse us for all out of pocket expenditure and would duly compensate us for the inconvenience.

We need to wait until the two missing bags turn up first. It is just such a struggle to get anyone to take responsibility!

Ok maybe I should have worded that a little better and that that wouldn't be totally liable but it wasn't just a laptop but some valuables she couldn't fit in her hand luggage, but this is where I think they need to bring back the rule of where you can have a laptop or camera case as well as hand luggage otherwise you are sometimes stuffed in regards to valuables.

Unfortunately he flew home on the day that Glasgow airport was hit. He ended up having to fly into Gatwick and then get a flight from Heathrow up to Glasgow.

I don't think he has bothered about trying to get compensation. I think he was just glad that he made it home in one piece.
